In honor and observance of Juneteenth, the City of Reading, including Downtown Reading Division, will be closed today.

Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the US. It was on June 19th in Gavelston, Texas where the last enslaved African-Americans were informed that they were liberated.

The City of Reading and it’s Downtown team reflect on the profound significance of this day and the ongoing journey toward equality.
