We have such exciting news to share! To help support Astoria Birth Center patients prepare for labor and delivery, we are now offering our 120 min childbirth education class, Birth Demystified at no cost!! If you are planning on delivering at ABC, you can now register for that class for free through our website.

Birth Demystified is the first part of our 4 part series. If you’re interested in taking the full series you’re welcome to register at any time (including after your “free trial”) . The remainder of the series will cover information on common medical interventions, comfort and support for birth partners, postpartum preparation and newborn care.

Childbirth education is a vital tool for accomplishing your ideal birth and as such, it’s a priority to us to keep the class financially accessible. We have bittersweet news to share:
Our right-hand woman, Kylie Foreman, is going to be moving on from North Star to enjoy a huge transition to life in Tennessee. Kylie has worked with us for nearly 2 years now and has been the backbone of my team. She is leaving substantial shoes to fill and I’m so sad to see her leave. She has touched the lives of 18 families through her work at North Star and I couldn’t be more grateful for the role she’s fulfilled.

The space that Kylie is leaving has inspired one of the most talented doulas (and one of my closest friends) to come out of retirement and rejoin the team at North Star!

I am beyond excited to welcome Faith Barrington back to NSD 🎉 Faith has been working as a birth doula since 2016 up until 2020, when after the birth of her third child she retired to focus on her family. Faith is one of the original doulas to work for North Star back when it was founded by Rebeckha Orton (before she opened ). She is actually the doula who started training me in 2017! Faith’s passion for birth and her sensitivity and compassion for her clients are two qualities that define her. Her expertises are in VBAC deliveries, unmedicated deliveries, breast feeding, and cloth diapering.

We have such exciting news to share!! Two pieces of news, in fact 🎉 Beginning in November, we are going to be offering a weekend immersive Childbirth Course! This option is going to be held every second Sunday from 1pm-7pm (snacks included). Our Thursday evening class is going to stay in place, we just now have a choice for weekend warriors.
Our second piece of incredible news is that we will be accepting OHP reimbursement for our Childbirth Course beginning in November! We are thrilled to be able to provide both of these options to our community.

What would you like to be covered in your childbirth education?

We have openings for new clients due in September!! If you are expecting in September, this is the perfect time to reach out about hiring a doula. We start seeing clients as early as 30 weeks to begin prenatal visits in preparation for labor and delivery support. We accept Oregon Health Plan as well as some other private insurances and have many different payment options for OOP clients.

We have also opened enrollment for September’s childbirth education class! This class fills up very quickly so register now if you are due in October.

If you’ve considered becoming trained in the healing and advocacy work of birth doulas, now is the time! We are registering students for our annual Astoria training hosted by Mother Tree Doula Services and Lumen Community Wellness the last weekend in June. This class is DONA approved and covers all the training requirements necessary for THW registration in order to receive reimbursement from the state of Oregon (reimbursement is now $1500/birth)! Taught independently by experienced birth doula and childbirth educator, Sarah Henry, students will receive an in depth instruction on a wide variety of birth topics.
