Review by Amy Raines for Readers’ Favorite:
"DinoSports, written by Roger Frank and Doug Lewtan and illustrated by Vova Kirichenko, is an adorable children’s picture book that combines dinosaurs and sports. As coaches themselves, the authors used the body type, strength and natural skills that specific dinosaurs exhibited and compared them to the skills of young athletes. Regardless of skill level, children will have a lot of fun reading about which dinosaurs may have been a good match for certain sports. For example, the Nothosaur’s long flat tail could have been a great surfboard or the Trodon’s hands could have been great for pitching in baseball because of it’s awesome grasping capabilities. If a child is into sports or dinosaurs or both, DinoSports is definitely a book they would absolutely love.
The amount of research that went into DinoSports by Roger Frank and Douglas Lewtan is astounding and definitely worth the read. The fun ideas of animals from a different time period playing sports is one of the most unique yet interesting concepts I have seen in quite a while. The comparisons of a dinosaur's natural strengths in the wild and the skills that are required for sports are not only written so a child can understand them but have pictures that easily display the animals participating. The bright and colorful illustrations by Vova Kirichenko are a lot of fun as they show what each dinosaur would have looked like if they had played the sport. I love how Frank and Lewtan appealed to children in this imaginative and colorful picture book in a way that will encourage them to play along. Even if a child is not into sports or dinosaurs, I would still recommend this book because the combination of the two will allow their imagination to run wild and possibly encourage them to try out for sports that fit their own natural skills."
