Delighted to give a tour of our Comptroller complex to the Senate President Senator Bill Ferguson and his team! And then ended the evening supporting my friend and a great new delegate, Delegate Aletheia McCaskill with many great Baltimore County electeds!
Nice to see this article about a fantastic Maryland program - the Judy Centers. These centers offer an unparalleled array of services for parents and children and help improve outcomes over the long-term. Grateful to the late Judith Hoyer for her foresight in creating this model and eager to see it continue expounding! Steny Hoyer

Your dollars matter to our small and local business owners - they go farther by supporting our community and neighbors when you choose to spend locally in independent businesses! It’s today but make it a small business season too!
In the midst of challenging times in our world, it makes me even more grateful for what I have. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from me and my family! All our love and gratitude.

This weekend, our Democratic Central Committees will vote on our party's new Chair and Vice Chair. We have a big year coming up - not just in Maryland but for our entire country. We need leaders who will energize, organize, and deliver. I know that Ken Ulman and Dr. Charlene Dukes will make a fantastic pair of leaders. Ken has traveled to every corner of this state and Charlene has spent her life educating Marylanders. Together, they will help ensure that we are winning not just here in Maryland, but also organizing to help our purple-state neighbors vote to save democracy, ensure a woman's right to make her own reproductive healthcare choices, and ensure we are leading the effort to fight climate change. Our party will benefit from their vision and tenacity. I'm proud to endorse them and I'm proud to be a Democrat.
A great weekend around the state - greeting our active duty service members at the Operation Homefront event in Baltimore, talking with the MD Student Legislature members in Frederick, celebrating 50 years of service with the men of Omega Psi Phi, and enjoying a Jazz Brunch with the Columbia The Links, Incorporated!
Wishing all who celebrate a joyful and meaningful Diwali!
Thank you to all our Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
Did you miss BPW this week? Here are a few of the items we approved!

A huge day as we celebrate the GSA’s decision to build the new national FBI headquarters in Greenbelt, Prince George’s County, Maryland! Greenbelt was always the clear choice as the site is ready to build, transit-oriented, close to other federal agencies, and provides the best value to taxpayers. There is still so much work to do but this is a big day and exciting start to the journey! (Photo Credit: Joe Andrucyk)
The right choice! Lots of work to do but a really big deal for our state - and for the FBI team who will get to work in an awesome facility within a great transit-oriented development! Onwards!
is proud that the City of Greenbelt Government has been selected as the next site for the new FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation Headquarters, which will bring a huge economic boost to Maryland! Congrats🎉!
ONE YEAR! I continue to be so, so grateful to everyone who worked together to help me become Maryland’s 34th Comptroller and the first woman to hold this office! It was an amazing team effort and I continue to be humbled to work with our great Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. We didn’t run to make history - we ran to make a difference. And I’m working to do that - each and every day.
Thank you to our First Lady Dawn Moore, Angela Alsobrooks, and the 100+ women who came out for my 9th Annual Women’s Breakfast! I loved seeing so many awesome women and it was great to see the connections everyone made. Onwards!
A great visit this week with Secretary Jake Day! Building more housing around the state is a win for families, communities, and the state.
Happy Halloween! When you live in Fell’s Point, you go to bars and shops (and houses) for candy! Luke, Hermione, and I had a great time with kids from around the neighborhood - thank you to all our neighbors and businesses who participated!
What a day! As a downtown neighborhood resident, as a Marylander, as someone who believes in the potential of Baltimore, it was fantastic to be at the event to reveal initial drawings and plans for our reimagined Harborplace! This is just a first step - but it’s an important one. I look forward to being a partner with leaders like Governor Wes Moore in this work. Onwards to an Inner Harbor that all of Maryland can be proud of!
Attended the fantastic annual Ploughman & Fisherman luncheon event with the Prince George’s County Central Committee and then hurried back to catch the kids in their Halloween piano recital, costumes and all! Great start to the week!
Congressman John Sarbanes has been a steadfast and relentless advocate not only for Marylanders in the 3rd district but for all Americans. By championing election and campaign finance reform for over a decade, he has brought to light the serious cracks in the foundation underpinning our democracy. The one and only fundraiser I have ever hosted in my home was over a decade ago for Rep. Sarbanes when he began his low-dollar donor fundraising demonstration. I am so proud to have had his support over years, but more importantly, his friendship and mentorship. He is always on the other end of the phone line when you need him. I'm so grateful to him and his family for his service and look forward to seeing what challenge he takes on next. - bel

Honored to attend the first ever posthumous bar admission in Maryland today as the Supreme Court admitted Edward Garrison Draper, who should have been the first Black member of the Maryland bar.
Mr. Draper was qualified in all respects - but was not a white man and was therefore denied admission to the bar when he petitioned for it in 1857.
Very proud of Maryland for righting this wrong today and proud to share the alma mater of Dartmouth College with Mr. Draper.
Great to be in Baltimore today to support Angela D. Alsobrooks and be on hand for the endorsement announcement by Governor Wes Moore! Let’s get it done, Maryland!
Great news for Maryland: the President has designated the Baltimore region as a federal biotech/AI hub!!
The designation is expected to generate $4.2 billion in economic impact and 52,000 jobs by 2030.
Baltimore’s hub will combine artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomy with biotech, medical technology, genomics, and synthetic biology, and to commercialize technologies that can improve health at the individual, community, and national levels.
Big win for our state!!
Baltimore selected as federal tech hub for artificial intelligence and biotechnology The Baltimore region has been awarded a federal designation to become a national tech hub, paving the way for hundreds of millions in funding and the potential to generate $4.2 billion in economic impact and 52,000 jobs by 2030.
I had a great time with the Baltimore County Democrats and the Montgomery County Democrats at their annual dinners this week! At both dinners we celebrated and thanked our party’s phenomenal volunteers and leaders. They are standing up for democracy each and every day! Onwards.
We deal with incredibly challenging and serious issues on a daily basis - and so sometimes, it’s good to have a laugh. Happy birthday to our Governor Wes Moore - wishing you the best year yet and many more laughs after BPW meetings!
(Thanks to the Gov’s great photography team for catching this moment!)
As the first woman Comptroller of Maryland, I understand how thick glass ceilings can be, and how important it is to have a strong, diverse network to invest in and support women in our state.
Join me on November 7th for my annual Women's Breakfast. You can RSVP at brookelierman.com/womensbrkfst
Thank you, Baltimore Orioles, for an amazing season. We had so much fun rooting for you and spending days at the Yard! Looking forward to next year already.
We had such a great visit to Westminster on Friday!
On today’s “Take a Look with Brooke” stop, we visited Westminster, MD where we met with local government officials, Carroll County NAACP leaders at the Ellsworth Cemetery, and toured local businesses!
During “Take a Look with Brooke” tours, Comptroller Lierman visits communities to learn more about the people and businesses that make Maryland a great place to live, work, and thrive.

Tragic violence and terrorism around the world against innocent civilians and families abounds. As I went by our state’s oldest synagogue this morning following the terrible events this weekend in Israel, I reflected on the horror of the events and ongoing crisis. I join friends and fellow Marylanders in praying for the safe return of innocent civilians, for an end to terrorism and violence, and for peace for all families and communities.
Let’s take O’ctober! Postseason baseball doesn’t look better than this! Baltimore Orioles
Let’s do this.
This week at the Board of Public Works I emphasized how important it is to align our grant programs with our climate resilience goals - and that includes moving away from funding artificial turf fields.
“Our kids will thank us.”
During today’s BPW meeting, Comptroller Lierman challenged the use of Program Open Space for funding artificial turf fields, noting that the program mandate is to conserve natural resources - the antithesis of turf. Not only do artificial turf fields emit greenhouse gases, but as temperatures rise, they will become even more unsafe and unusable- a study from Brigham Young University found that the surface temperature of synthetic turf was 37° F higher than asphalt and 86.5° F hotter than natural turf.
Achieving best value means ensuring our dollars are spent to build a more climate resilient state. The Comptroller looks forward to collaborating with the Department of Natural Resources and local governments to fund the construction of green and climate resilient infrastructure.
This morning, Maryland Attorney General Brown and I joined our teams for the physical inventory of a to***co warehouse. Our teams work together to ensure wholesalers are complying with all to***co and tax laws. Great teamwork!
All are welcome! These guys play with joy and truly define teamwork & grit. Baseball at its best can be found in Baltimore.
A bandwagon fan’s guide to the 2023 AL East-champion Orioles: ‘They’re gonna like how we play’ Some Baltimore-area residents who have tuned the ballclub out during a long, but productive, rebuild, might need an introduction to these American League-leading Orioles.
Last night I had the honor to congratulate Dr. Bob Gallo on his retirement as leader of the Institute on Human Virology, based at the University of Maryland-Baltimore. Dr. Gallo and his team co-discovered HIV as the cause of AIDS and he then led creation of IHV and the Global Virus Network. His work has changed healthcare and scientific research around the world. So grateful!
