πŸ“’ Calling all my friends! Did you know that February is National Gum Care Month? 🌱🦷

It's a perfect time to show some love to our pearly whites, because healthy gums are the foundation of a beautiful smile! 😁 Let's take a moment to appreciate the importance of gum care and how we can maintain optimal oral health.

🌟 Did you know?
Gum disease affects nearly half of all adults over the age of 30, and it can lead to serious consequences if left untreated. There are a number of health conditions that are linked to gum disease such as, heart disease, kidney disease, Alzheimer's, and a many auto-immune disorders. Not to mention if left untreated can lead to tooth loss, receding gums, abscesses, chronic bad breath, and increased inflammation!

Bacteria from gum disease can enter the bloodstream and cause inflammation that damages blood vessels. This can increase the risk of heart attacks. Plaque buildup from gum disease can cause bacteria to enter the bloodstream. Plaque buildup in the arteries is known as atherosclerosis and is a hallmark of coronary artery disease.

Diabetes increases the risk of gum disease: People with diabetes are more likely to develop gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. This is because diabetes can cause your body to produce less saliva, which protects your mouth. It can also increase the amount of glucose in your saliva, which can lead to plaque buildup and bacterial growth. Gum disease can increase the risk of other health problems: Gum disease can increase the risk of heart and kidney disease in people with diabetes.

But fear not! By adopting good gum care habits, we can make a positive impact on our overall well-being.

✨ Here are a few tips to keep our gums healthy and happy:

1️⃣ Brush thoroughly: Remember to brush your teeth at least twice a day, using gentle circular motions to massage your gums as well. It's important to reach every nook and cranny!

2️⃣ Floss diligently: Don't forget to floss regularly to remove plaque and food particles that may be hiding between your teeth and gums. Let's embrace that flossing dance!

3️⃣ Schedule regular check-ups: Even if our teeth look great, it's crucial to have regular dental check-ups. Dentists can detect early signs of gum disease and provide preventive care to keep your gums in tip-top shape.

πŸ‘‰ Let's challenge ourselves this month to take better care of our gums. Share your favorite gum care tips or your dental journey in the comments below! Let's support each other and spread awareness about the importance of excellent oral hygiene. Together, we can achieve healthier smiles, one gum at a time. πŸ’ͺ

Our office has 2 prosthodontists, one specializes in maxillofacial prosthodontics for people with congenital deformities like cleft palates, or those needing obturators. We also have a general dentist. This makes us a well rounded choice for your dental needs!!!

Understanding the Distinct Roles of Prosthodontists and General Dentists

Introduction:
When it comes to dental healthcare, it's crucial to recognize the different dental professionals who specialize in specific areas. Two such experts who play pivotal roles in oral care are prosthodontists and general dentists. Both are extensively trained, but their unique expertise and areas of focus vary significantly. In this blog post, we will dive into the key differences between prosthodontists and general dentists, shedding light on their roles, education, and what sets them apart.

Prosthodontists: Master Craftsmen of Oral Restoration
Prosthodontics is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the restoration and replacement of damaged or missing teeth. Prosthodontists, often referred to as the architects of dentistry, are highly skilled in dental aesthetics, rehabilitation, and functionality. Their primary goal is to improve a patient's quality of life by restoring their smile, oral functionality, and self-confidence.

Education and Training:
To become a prosthodontist, after completing dental school, individuals must undertake three additional years of advanced training in a prosthodontics program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA). This intensive training equips them with the knowledge and expertise to handle complex oral rehabilitation cases, including full-mouth reconstruction, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, and maxillofacial prosthetics.

Scope of Practice:
Prosthodontists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and ex*****on of complex dental restorations. Their expertise involves identifying the root cause of oral issues and creating personalized treatment plans that address both functional and aesthetic concerns. They often collaborate with other dental specialists, such as oral surgeons and orthodontists, to provide comprehensive dental care.

General Dentists: Primary Care Providers
General dentistry, on the other hand, encompasses a wide range of dental disciplines aimed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating common oral health concerns. They serve as primary care providers for dental patients and focus on maintaining overall oral health, as well as providing routine and preventive care.

Education and Training:
General dentists, after completing their undergraduate education, must earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school. These programs typically span four years and involve an extensive curriculum covering various areas of dentistry.

Scope of Practice:
General dentists are responsible for providing routine check-ups, cleanings, and oral hygiene guidance. They diagnose and treat common dental issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and cavities. Additionally, they may perform basic restorative procedures, such as dental fillings, extractions, root canals, and basic cosmetic dentistry procedures like teeth whitening or dental bonding.

Collaboration between Prosthodontists and General Dentists:
While prosthodontists and general dentists have distinct areas of expertise, their collaboration is vital in offering comprehensive care to patients. General dentists often refer complex cases involving extensive tooth restoration or replacement to prosthodontists. Conversely, prosthodontists may refer patients to general dentists for routine check-ups, cleanings, and maintenance of oral health.

Conclusion:
Prosthodontists and general dentists play equally important roles in ensuring optimal oral health and a beautiful smile. General dentistry focuses on overall oral health maintenance and prevention, while prosthodontists specialize in advanced restorative treatments and tooth replacement. Understanding the difference between these dental professionals will help you make informed decisions when seeking the appropriate dental care for your needs. Remember, regular visits to both your general dentist and prosthodontist, when necessary, are essential for maintaining a healthy and confident smile.

Hey everyone! We would like to share some exciting news! Who would've thought dentures could be high-tec too? We are fabricating digital dentures! These digital dentures are revolutionizing the world of dental prosthetics.

Generally they do not require any messy impressions, and the turnaround time is much faster! With digital dentures the process is quick, precise, more customizable which gives a better fit, and the coolest part is you actually get to take them out for a test drive before the final product is made! Using advanced technology, we are able to scan your current existing denture and your mouth and create a 3D printed trial denture that you can take home and wear to ensure you are completely happy with the fit and aesthetics before the final product is made. This greatly reduces the need for multiple wax try-ins like conventional dentures, and digital dentures do not tend to need as many adjustments on the final product like conventional dentures. Plus, they offer enhanced durability and a more natural looking appearance.

Currently we are using this process for people who have existing dentures that may be old, worn, or discolored. We will be able to use this process to create a denture for someone who had all their teeth removed later in the fall! The future of dentistry is truly awe-inspiring!

If you or someone you know has dentures that they love the fit, but the denture is old and worn down, or you are not happy with the aesthetics please give us a call. Let us show you the future of dental technology and create a more durable, longer lasting, and more natural looking denture! Call us today 719-576-3661!!! 😁🦷
