The tribe.
While our organization is known for healing veterans through fly fishing, it’s our community that truly makes us special.
The community aspect from our time in the service is something we often miss. However, we often don’t realize just how important it is until we’ve found that tribe again.
Our local programs provide just that, a tribe of like minded individuals all looking towards the future. Groups of veterans following their path, but at the same time helping those around them find there’s.
While fly fishing truly does saves lives, our community is what puts it all together.

Many thanks to Bob Woodruff Foundation for their grant, which afforded RVP the opportunity to participate in this year’s VRNC Convening, at Wright State University in OH!
Launched in November 2022, the VetResources Community Network includes community outreach partners such as non-profits, Veterans Service Organizations, strategic partners, coalitions, peer networks, community partnerships, Community Veterans Engagement Boards, and federal and state organizations.
The VRCN provides increased community Veteran engagement support to local communities, facilities, and external partners; enhances trust and access to care and benefits; shares promising practices, information and resources; and channels the Voice of the Customer through proactive outreach and communications. The VRCN is VA’s new front door for outreach and community engagement to co-design collaboration strategies, bridge gaps in service, maximize collective impact, and breakdown silos.

Planning the 4th with your Veteran friends and family, consider the following tips:
Plan Quiet Activities: Choose calm and quiet activities that everyone can enjoy, like a family barbecue or a small gathering.
Avoid Fireworks: Skip personal fireworks and consider attending professional displays where veterans can be prepared or choose to stay home.
Create a Safe Space: Ensure there's a quiet, comfortable space for the veteran to retreat if needed.
Communicate: Discuss plans ahead of time, including any potential triggers, and establish signals for needing a break.
Support: Be patient and understanding, offering support without pressure.
Educate Guests: Inform guests about potential triggers to ensure a supportive environment.
