Yesterday, I completed the final part of the training requirement to be certified to provide Domestic Violence Intervention Treatment (DVIT). DVIT provides intervention to perpetrators of domestic violence, which is an essential part of DV treatment. DVIT covers many areas, including family conflict, the impact of DV on children, relationship issues, anger issues, communication, etc. When passing legislation for DVIT, Representative Roger Goodman stated, "When effective, domestic violence intervention programs...can help reduce recidivism, stop generational cycles of abuse, support victim safety, and help provide offenders a path back to society and family." That is the goal!!! Ending violence and healing generational cycles of abuse.

Everyone deserves relationships free of abuse!

I have the pleasure of partnering with and leading the Mental Health Collaborative. The Mental Health Collaborative is part of the Burien Collaborative, which is a collective group of organizations, businesses, and community partners that meet to share resources, create community, and discuss ways we can better serve our community. The includes , , , , , and many others.

The Mental Health Collaborative is for all mental health counselors and therapists who serve or are connected to the Burien and greater Highline Service area. We want this time to be a safe and supportive space for each other to build community and promote wellness for ourselves.

If you’re a local mental health therapist looking for community, we welcome you! Feel free to reach out for more information.

I had the pleasure of being part of an article, "New Teachers, New Narrative: A Model for Growing Community Wellness," in the University of Washington's "Advancing Educational Justice" publication.

My Brother's Teacher is an organization at UW that aims to increase the number of Black & Brown young men in the early learning workforce. They also provide these scholars with access to mental health resources. As the clinical therapist for this program, I get to engage in real-life conversations about mental health, imposter syndrome, racial trauma, community wellness, navigating the stigma around therapy, and so much more with these scholars. Thank you, My Brother’s Teacher for your work, and Alice Skipton, for capturing the voices & hearts behind this work.

Please take a moment to check out the publication. You won't be disappointed!
