Erie Doulas
Erie Doulas offer skilled labor support and prenatal education to help you have your best birth! Call us today! We'd love to talk about how we can help.
Erie Doulas believe that how we give birth to our babies matters. Having the privilege of serving families for over 20 years, we understand birth and what birthing people need. We know how important, powerful, and transformative the experience of pregnancy and birth can be, and we are honored and excited every time we are invited in to share it. Our classes will help you feel confident and prepared to meet your baby, and our knowledgeable labor support will complement your birth.
Congratulations to all of my amazing colleagues who I celebrate each year on International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) Day! You are making a difference in short and long-term health of parents and babies as well as the mental health of those who want to breastfeed. Tag an IBCLC you know. They deserve all of the recognition--today and every day. In order to qualify to sit for the 4 hour, 175 question board exam, candidates must complete and pass 14 science courses, 90 hours of lactation-specific education, 5 hours of communication, up to 1,000 clinical hours of direct client services. Next, they prepare to take the exam by studying countless hours and evaluating hundreds of pictures--all of this just to serve families and help them meet their feeding goals--I admire and applaud you all! Producing breastmilk takes up about 30% of the body’s energy. Your brain, for comparison, only uses about 20%.
You’re not doing nothing.
This is why you’re so tired at the end of the day.
This is why you’re so hungry and so thirsty.
So, if all you did was feed your baby today, don’t let your mind convince you that you didn’t do enough. You did enough. You did amazing. 🤱

Overall winner from the 2019 Birth Becomes Her" photo contest, by Sadie Wilde Photography. Beautiful.
'It captures the moment that Diana Spalding, midwife + Motherly's Digital Education Editor, described so eloquently in her recent TEDx talk.
"There is this moment after a woman gives birth—however a woman gives birth—when the room kind of stands still, and you realize that you are in the presence of something inexplicably magical," Spalding explains.
She continues: "The world feels different—because it is different. There's this new little baby. And there's this new mom...She is full of power and confidence and has this glow that beams 'look what I just did'."
Look what this mama just did. She is incredible.
Thank you, Sadie Wilde for preserving this moment.
Who's in, lol?! Happy Labor Day folks!
