*** Firework Safety Alert ***

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, your Toledo Fire and Rescue Department wants to remind everyone about the importance of firework safety. Fireworks can bring joy and excitement, but if not handled properly, they can lead to devastating accidents. Here are some crucial safety tips to keep in mind:

1.Never allow children to handle fireworks. Keep them at a safe distance away from the fireworks display.

2. Read and follow all instructions carefully. Make sure to use fireworks only in open, outdoor areas away from buildings and flammable materials.

3. Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby. In case of a mishap, you can quickly extinguish any fire.

4. Do not attempt to relight malfunctioning fireworks. I repeat, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RELIGHT MALFUNCTIONING FIREWORKS!!

5. Never aim fireworks at people, animals, or structures. Be considerate of your surroundings and the safety of others.

6. Attend a public fireworks display organized by professionals. Enjoy the show from a safe distance without the risk.

7. Remember, alcohol and fireworks don't mix. Stay sober when handling fireworks to ensure everyone's safety.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks cause an average of 18,500 fires each year, resulting in injuries and property damage. Let's celebrate responsibly and keep our community safe during this upcoming holiday

“ People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy; be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.
