St. Mary’s Medical Center and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital are very proud to participate in Tenet Healthcare’s 2024 Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive – an incredible initiative to help those struggling with hunger and promote the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. Various members of the team competed in a Cereal Eating contest to raise internal awareness for this initiative. We are collecting cereal as well as financial contributions that will be donated to the local Boys and Girls Club. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of those we serve.

Technology plays an important role in healthcare. As part of #TechnologyTuesday we are going to get informed and comfortable with technology used at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital. We are excited to offer pulmonary care telemedicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center. This piece of equipment allows respiratory patients to be seen 24/7, 365 days a year. Having this allows our doctors to learn as much as they would in person.Telemedicine for pulmonary can diagnose patients with a variety of lung conditions. When a consultation is requested, the Pulmonology specialist logs in to a videoconference with the patient and the in-person health care team. Family members may also be at bedside. The telePulmonology specialist establishes the purpose of the virtual medical consultation, and evaluates the patient, interacting with the care team, the patient, and the family. At the end of the consultation, the specialist provides feedback on follow up care, and documents the visit. This equipment helps to improve outcomes for patients by giving them rapid access to pulmonary care.#TechTues #StMarysMedicalCenter #PalmBeachChildrensHospital #PBHNProud #StrongerTogetherForYou

This is a Giraffe Omnibed. It is an incubator and radiant warmer in one. This bed is used in neonatal care to provide a controlled environment for premature or ill newborns. It helps regulate temperature, humidity, and oxygen levels to support the infant’s development until they can thrive outside of the womb.

An X-ray is a type of medical imaging that creates pictures of your bones and soft tissues, such as organs. X-rays use a small amount of radiation to take these images which help providers diagnose conditions and plan treatments. X-rays are great to see if someone has broken a bone. In the video you see the child lying down on the X-ray Table. He is in position for the X-ray to take a picture of his abdomen. The radiologist will see all the different parts of the body. The child just lies there and exhales. It is quick, easy and there is no pain for the patient. #TechTues #StMarysMedicalCenter #PalmBeachChildrensHospital #PBHNProud #StrongerTogetherForYou

As the temperatures are already summer-ready here in South Florida, leaving your kids in your car can be a deadly mistake. Pediatric emergency medicine physician, Dr. Sara Tano, talked to WPTV about how fast a car parked in the hot sun will heat up, and useful tips on how to make sure you remember your kids in their car seat. #strongertogetherforyou #PBHNProud #palmbeachhealthnetwork

Today we had a special visit from Isabella and Abigail, students from Lake Worth Christian School. As part of their senior leadership project several members from their high school and middle school community volunteered to bake and contribute a sweet treat for our nurses. They told us many of their friends and family members have been treated here including Isabella, who now in remission was an oncology patient at the #palmbeachchildrenshospital. They were excited to give back and deliver something special as part of #nursesweek and we greatly appreciated their generosity. #StMarysMedicalCenter #PBHNProud #strongertogetherforyou
Today we look at the science behind Kangaroo Care. Kangaroo Care mimics the natural environment of the womb. The warmth generated by the parent's skin helps regulate the baby's body temperature. Additionally, the close proximity allows the infant to listen to the parent's heartbeat, syncing with a familiar rhythm and promoting a sense of security. Kangaroo Care may be initiated as soon as the baby is born, regardless of whether they are born prematurely or at full term. Parents are encouraged to practice skin-to-skin contact for as long as possible. Embrace the Magic and practice Kangaroo Care.
