Exciting News from San Felipe Del Rio CISD!

We're thrilled to share that our district has received a generous $10,000 grant from the AEP Foundation!

At our school board meeting on July 15, 2024, Mr. Jimmy Earnest, External Affairs Manager for AEP Texas, presented the grant and praised our district's dedication to supporting students and the community. This grant will help us fund creative and impactful projects, enriching the educational experiences of our students.

Dr. Carlos H. Rios expressed gratitude to Mr. Earnest and the AEP Foundation for their support. He also acknowledged the hard work of our teachers, administrators, and Education Foundation members who tirelessly benefit our students and community.

Lamar Elementary’s Culinary Kids Club had a fantastic last meeting of the year! They wrapped up their successful first year by making delicious potato wedges, mini sliders, fruit salad, and ice cream. Thank you to everyone who made this year possible!

The Del Rio High School Hooks and Books Club, an Education Foundation funded organization dedicated to the art of crochet and the joy of reading, is proud to announce our recent charitable initiative aimed at providing comfort and warmth to dialysis patients. Through our collective efforts and skillful handiwork, the club members have crafted a collection of hand crocheted blankets and hand warmers, which were graciously donated to those undergoing dialysis treatment.

Dialysis patients often endure long hours of treatment in a clinical environment, and the gesture of a warm, handmade blanket or hand warmer can provide them with a sense of comfort and solace during these challenging times. The Hooks and Books Club recognizes the importance of human connection and empathy, and through our donation, we seek to offer support and encouragement to those facing health struggles.

The generosity of the Hooks and Books Club serves as a shining example of the power of community and compassion. The club’s commitment to giving back demonstrates the profound impact that simple acts of kindness can have on individuals facing adversity.

Lamar Elementary 5th grade students partnered with Texas Game Wardens for the 12th annual Fishing at the Creek, learning about San Felipe Creek. Around 70 students enjoyed fishing, a K9 demonstration, birdwatching, and discovering new drone technology. The beautiful weather was perfect for teaching about local habitats, ecosystems, and native animals. Thanks to all Game Wardens and Park Rangers for their continued support in educating our Lamar Ponies. Special thanks to Mr. Amezcua for BBQing for everyone! Great food and company!

After several weeks of visits across all SFDRCISD campuses, we concluded our tour today, delivering lunches in our Foundation-branded bags. These small tokens were our way of encouraging our incredible teachers to apply for the Innovative Teaching Grants. Connecting with educators, celebrating their dedication, and looking forward to the innovative projects they will propose has been a rewarding experience.

Innovative Teaching Grant Awards: Enhancing Student Learning through Dedicated Educators

A total of 24 deserving educators have been selected for their exceptional dedication to enhancing student learning. The grants, totaling an impressive $38,388.85, will provide these educators with the resources needed to implement groundbreaking programs.

These recipients have demonstrated a deep understanding of the evolving educational landscape and have showcased their ability to adapt and transform teaching methods. The grant aims to empower educators who have shown a remarkable commitment to nurturing curiosity, embracing change, and fostering creativity within their classrooms.
