Good mernin and happy Wednesday to my early risers, night owls, insomniacs, and neurospicy besties.

A storm system will impact our weather for the next couple of days! Let me splain.

- Starting today, the wind will kick up and become blowy as a cold front move from north to south across Wyoming, the western Nebrasky pandyhandle, western Kansas, and Colorado.

- Winds on average will be 10-20mph with gusts that could eclipse 40mph especially south of I-70.

- A few showers and storms already ongoing along the Cheyenne Ridge near the front. Those will push south throughout the day. Additional showers and storms will form along the continental divide and in the foothills by 11am as lift and instability form ahead of the cold front.

- Strongest showers and storms will contain gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and the potential for hail. Highs will max out in the 80s for the north half of the region. 80s and 90s remain possible south of I-70 ahead of the cold front.

- Much cooler Thursday with showers and storms continuing as the center of low pressure moves from north to south across Colorado. Highs should only max out in the 70s.

- Back in the 80s starting Friday. 80s to near 90 heading into the weekend and first part of next week. Gross.

We're gonna start off the week with some spicy!

A surge of the monsoon arrived in Colorado this mernin. Winds will kick up later out of the southeast helping to advect even more moisture onto the front range & eastern plains from the Gulf of Mexico.

Southeasterly winds should contribute to the development of what we call the DCVZ later today. (Denver Convergence Vortcity Zone). Winds coming off the Palmer Divide and into the Denver metro from the southeast towards the northwest create convergence boundaries where showers and thunderstorms form in otherwise "capped" environments. The combination of the DCVZ and southeasterly upslope will develop numerous showers and thunderstorms today.

First in the mountains after NOON. Shortly after that for the I-25 corridor and eastern plains including SE Wyoming and the western Nebrasky pandyhandle.

Due to the increase in the monsoon, the intense surface heating, and enhanced southeasterly upslope flow and DCVZ, a few of these storms today could be severe. To reach severe criteria, you need winds at least 58mph or greater, hail at least 1" in diameter or larger, and either doppler radar indicated tornado, or visually confirmed nader.

So, if you have outdoor plans today, be mindful of the risks, and try to adjust your schedules accordingly. If you have no choice or you're commuting during spicy time, it was nice knowin ya. 😜

There's also an elevated risk of flash flooding in the burn scar regions. It won't take much to trigger a flash flood warning today. Just have a plan and be prepared to seek higher ground if the time comes.

Everyone is fair game today. Will everyone see rain? No, but today features a much higher probability than we've seen in quite a few days; so if you don't see any rain, I suggest never gambling and staying as far away from me as possible. K great thanks. 😁

Tuesday, coverage of showers and storms will be much more isolated. Favoring the mountains and higher terrain on the Palmer Divide. More on that later.

Wednesday and beyond, back to scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms which will linger through at least Friday. Highs will fluctuate between the upper 80s and low 90s depending on where you're at.

It's important to stay ahead of the crowd to avoid the headaches caused by supply and labor shortages during peak season. Message us with questions! My confidence in severe weather occurring this afternoon and evening is increasing.

Ample sunshine is going to help destabilize the atmosphere. Dew points continue to rise, and a convergence boundary is going to set up on the eastern side of the Denver Metro (we call this the DCVZ aka Denver Convergence Vorticity Zone).

As southeasterly winds blow off the Palmer Divide and into the Denver Metro, anti-cyclonic winds influenced by terrain will form and should be the focus of initial thunderstorm development after 2-3pm this afternoon.

As these thunderstorms move onto the northeast plains, they will enter an environment that's favorable for very large hail (up to tennis ball size or larger) and a few tornadoes.

Now, most of the tornadoes we get here in Colorado are landspouts. Weaker tornadoes with thunderstorms that aren't severe.

Today could be an exception. The tornadoes that are possible today will come from severe thunderstorms with rotating updrafts. These tornadoes tend to last longer, and are stronger.

So, I don't say this to scare you, but to prepare you. Keep your eye to the sky today. Check into social media more than you normally would, and if you are within my red oval circle shape thingy, I believe this is where the greatest threat for severe weather will exist.

The threat for thunderstorms does exist outside of the oval circle shape thingy as well for the northern front range, SE Wyoming, and the western Nebraska panhandle.

Conclusion is this: be weather ready. Wear your damn helmets. Don't be out running errands later this afternoon and get caught in a storm. Get it done early. Be diligent in your planning this afternoon.

Will everyone see severe weather? No.

For those of you who do, it'll get spicy.
