Rockingham County, We have something to celebrate! We won the 'Excellence in Innovation' Award at the NC Association of County Commissioners! The award specifically recognizes the county’s efforts to provide needed dental services to children in Rockingham County Schools through Mobile Dental Expansion, which is administered by the Rockingham County Division of Public Health.

The program officially started in September 2023 and provided dental care to over 174 children during its inaugural year.

“We pride ourselves on being able to serve our community...,” said Rockingham County Division of Public Health Director Trey Wright. “So, when our Public Health Leadership Team saw an opportunity to provide Mobile Dental Services, we developed and implemented a program that would bring better oral health and improved well-being for the children of Rockingham County.”

A huge congrats to all who worked on the Mobile Dental Project. Thank you for making our county a better place!

Thank you to everyone who completed our Community Health Assessment survey in recent weeks! With over 300 responses, it will go a long way to helping us identify the health priorities that matter most to our community. Still want to contribute to the process? Our Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) team had a great time at Dillard Academy's open house on Monday! Last school year, our MDU program provided dental care to 173 children who didn't have a dentist. Thank you to Rockingham County Schools for this amazing partnership!

Wednesdays are Farmer's Market days at the Governmental Center. Stop by between 11am and 1pm for some fresh, local produce!

Tomorrow marks the return of our on-site Farmer's Market! Joyce Farms will be with us at the Governmental Center from 11am to 1pm with fresh, local produce for sale. Stop by and pick up something delicious!

We're looking at another day with a high heat index for tomorrow. Avoid the heat when you can, and make sure to drink extra water!

You can get FREE HIV tests every 3 months until 2027! If you are 17 or older you are able to order up to two tests for free every 3 months by filling out the form provided. Once you receive your at home tests just follow the directions given and within 20 minutes you will have your results.

Thanks so much to Amanda Clark from Guilford County Government, along with Abigail Hedgecock from Starting Point RHRC of Rockingham , who provided training and resources to about 80 Rockingham County NC employees yesterday! This training was organized by our new Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) program, and it helped attendees know how to recognize an opioid overdose and how to respond to save a life!

We have some exciting news! After carefully considering all submitted proposals, the County Board of Commissioners awarded $27,000 to Starting Point Rural Harm Reduction Collective (SPRHRC) to be a partner in Opioid Harm Reduction in the County.

Starting Point Rural Harm Reduction Collective's work is focused on
harm reduction strategies that also reduce stigma through advocacy, outreach, and empowerment by providing direct and evidenced-based services to individuals impacted by drug use and its associated risk factors.

A few examples of their work include safe use and community education, Narcan distribution, fentanyl test strips, HIV/HCV prevention, and peer support services.

"We are extremely excited to have SPRHRC expanding their services into Rockingham County,” stated Lisa Ellington, facilitator with Rockingham County Recovers, a community work group. “We will be very fortunate to have them as we continue to seek services that prevent unintended death by overdose. I look forward to helping them get established within the
community."

Got ticks? Come grab a tick kit from the reception desk at the Rockingham County Governmental Center. These kits are used to capture ticks found on your person then send them to NC State University to be evaluated for Lyme Disease.
