Mornings like these in the rock quarry 🙌🏼 Today we’re completing drone missions to gather data for designing our drilling and blasting plans.
Our emulsion product at McCallum Powder is completely waterproof. It displaces water in the borehole giving us solid, consistent loads of explosives minus any water pockets. In the wet Pacific Northwest this gives us a huge advantage over ANFO because it means we don’t have to worry about the weather to execute our blasting operations.

Meet Enrique, an emulsion truck driver for McCallum Powder who’s been with us for over 2.5 years. When our holes are ready to be loaded, our custom-designed pump trucks roll in with their computer controlled distribution systems. They allow us to pump the emulsion materials at specific ratios out through a hose and down into the boreholes, which allows us to seamlessly control every aspect of the blast.
After we boretrack the face, 3D and 2D profiles are sent to the Blaster-in-Charge. We then upload that data into our McCallum Rock profiling app for the blaster to use on shot day to load the face accordingly. BIC Jeremy is shown here getting it done!
Our BIC (Blaster in Charge) Jeremy is in charge of many things, most importantly ensuring a safe and controlled blast. In order to do that he must divide certain responsibilities to his crew. Here he’s letting Jose know how much emulsion to load into each hole to ensure a successful blast.
McCallum Powder’s emulsion product is an ammonium nitrate solution mechanically mixed with other raw materials by a computer-controlled system onboard a delivery vehicle at the job site. These pump trucks are built on-site at our Chehalis, WA headquarters.
