Today’s vote was a missed opportunity to safeguard our elections and protect taxpayers from another bloated, multi-trillion-dollar Christmas omnibus. Though I don’t support CRs as a long-term solution—and have never supported one in the past—this one included meaningful reforms and was our best shot at stopping both a December omnibus and noncitizens from influencing our elections.

I thank my fellow conservatives, especially Chip Roy and Mike Lee, who fought to get the SAVE Act included in this funding bill. Unfortunately, too many in Washington are more interested in preserving the status quo than in securing our elections and protecting the American people from the woke and weaponized DC regime.

President Trump is right. Republicans should not continue to fund a government that refuses to secure our elections.

My heart goes out to the family of the Border Patrol agent, Brandon Brown, who tragically lost his life in a head-on collision in Nueces County.

Please join me in praying for his family, friends, and fellow agents during this incredibly difficult time. May God bring them peace and comfort as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

Why Republicans Must Resist the Biden-Harris Omnibus Trap

Every year, Congress is supposed to fund the government in a way that reflects the priorities of the American people. We all know that Sept. 30 is the deadline; yet every year, like clockwork, Congress acts surprised when it arrives.

It’s as if they forgot the date was coming, and we’re left with the same frustrating scenario: forced into a corner with a continuing resolution (CR) and then a bloated, end-of-year, multi-trillion-dollar omnibus package. And every August, when traveling my district, I have the same conversation with folks who are understandably tired of Washington’s failure to get its act together and work for them.

Let me make this clear upfront—we do not want a CR. They are a result of Congress failing to pass its spending bills on time, and this year, like so many before, the D.C. apparatus is setting us up for failure again.

So, we are faced with a tough choice: fight for an acceptable CR with reasonable provisions that set up a potential Trump administration on his terms or risk a multi-trillion-dollar omnibus that will lock in Biden-Harris policies for his first year.

Given these two understandably not great choices, we are fighting for the better one—a CR, but only one that includes the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act attached, which would allow a Trump administration to set and negotiate its policy and spending priorities as well as secure our elections.

This is not about surrendering to the status quo; it is about using the tools we have to prevent a far worse outcome.

We want to ensure that, should Trump take office in 2025, his administration is not tied to spending levels and policies already set by Biden and Harris. The first 100 days of any presidency are crucial for setting an administration’s agenda and driving meaningful change.

The American people deserve a clear understanding of why this fight is so critical. If we don’t fight for this, Democrats and establishment Republicans will join together and pass a CR we don’t want—the one that leads to a massive debilitating omnibus. Fighting for a CR that includes the SAVE Act gives us a way to keep our options open.

It is not what we want, but it is far better than the DC apparatus getting together behind closed doors and passing another year of reckless, unaccountable spending and leftwing policies that do not reflect the will of the American people.

I have the same frustrations with CRs that many of you do—too often, they are just an excuse to kick the can down the road. But faced with the certainty of a CR or the disaster of an omnibus that no doubt will include provisions designed to hamstring a Trump presidency, we choose the path that best preserves our ability to fight for conservative principles and policies.

It is a strategic structuring of the legislative process to best ensure that a future Trump administration has the flexibility and freedom to enact meaningful reforms in its first 100 days.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. If we allow the Washington establishment to push through another omnibus, we will lose the chance to change course and correct the fiscal irresponsibility of the past few years. The American people are tired of watching Congress fund a bloated bureaucracy that does not serve their interests. We are fighting to make sure that does not happen again.

The American people deserve better than business as usual in Washington. They deserve a government willing to fight for them, even when faced with tough choices.

We are ready to make those choices and urge our fellow Republicans to stand with us.

Let’s demand better.

Let’s fight smarter.

Let’s ensure that our country remains a beacon of freedom and opportunity for generations to come.

The Left is sprinting toward a fiscal disaster, and too often Republicans jog in the same direction and call it progress. We can't keep doing business as usual and continue down this path.

It was a true privilege to visit the U.S. Coast Guard facility along the Gulf Coast and present the 'Patriot Award' to the brave men and women who exemplify the very best of our nation. Recently, these dedicated service members demonstrated incredible courage and skill in a heroic Search and Rescue operation, saving the lives of two scuba divers who had been lost at sea for 36 hours.

A special thanks to the Men and Women in the Corpus Christi USCG Air Station and the USCG Sector Command. Their bravery and commitment under severe weather conditions and challenging circumstances are a testament to the highest standards of service. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to protecting and serving our nation.

Today, I had the chance to visit with the Veterans Roundtable in Corpus Christi. We had meaningful discussions on critical issues facing our nation such as defending our inalienable rights including those listed in the First and Second Amendments, restoring an economy that works for all Americans, securing our border and restoring US energy dominance. Additionally, we celebrated local achievements, including the expansion of resources at Corpus Christi Army Depot, the recent Coast Guard rescue of a couple lost at sea and the work we are doing to improve the facilities as NAS Corpus Christi.

Last week, I traveled to NAS Pensacola and NAS Whiting Field in Florida to learn more about how these bases are managing their infrastructure and training our nation’s naval aviators. As we continue to work to support and improve NAS Corpus Christi in our district, it’s important to understand how other bases operate and overcome their challenges.

Just like NAS Corpus Christi, NAS Pensacola and NAS Whiting Field are vital to our national defense, training the best naval aviators and ensuring that America remains strong and secure. However, these bases, much like ours, face significant infrastructure challenges that need immediate attention.

We must focus on strengthening our military bases and support the necessary resources and improvements. NAS Corpus Christi is not just important for our local economy and community in Texas’ 27th District—it is a crucial part of our national security. Ensuring it has the proper funding and infrastructure support is not just about readiness; it’s about protecting American values, defending our nation, and supporting our servicemen and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

It’s great to hear that Refugio County has been awarded a $4 million emergency grant from the Texas Historical Commission as part of their courthouse restoration program. The preservation of our historical landmarks is vital to maintaining our Texas heritage.

I wrote a letter of support for this restoration project, ensuring that the Refugio County Courthouse—a symbol of our history—will receive the care it deserves. This funding is a significant step toward preserving the integrity of this important building, allowing future generations to appreciate its historical significance.
