Swim Defiance Open Water

Last week to sign up for Swim Defiance! There are still 30 spots available. We have great new awards for top finisher in each age group plus a new award for ALL finishers. In addition, there will be a drawiings for some great prizes after the swim along with yummy food!

It's that time again....Swim Defiane practices begin this Wednesday July 10, 6:30pm at Owen Beach.

These pratices are for those already registered for the swim along with any Bernardo's All Stars members who are current USMS registered members.

The schedule is as follows:

07/10 - 6:30pm Owen Beach

07/18 - 6:30pm Owen Beach

07/24 - 6:30pm Owen Beach

07/30 - 6:30pm Owen Beach

08/05 - 6:00pm Owen Beach

Make sure to bring a bright colored cap and swim buoy, wetsuits recommended. I do have some bright colored caps and swim buoys for sale if needed. Please let me know so I make sure to have enough on hand.

Early registration prices end tomorrow Sunday 06/30 at 11:50pm. After that the price goes up for Swim Defiance.
Right now we are half full so there are still lots of spots remaining for this great swim.

Swim Defiance Date Change!
Sunday August 11, 2024 is the new date.
Due to a scheduling conflict with Metro Parks in Tacoma we had to move our original date back one day from Saturday to Sunday. All the updated information is on the website swimdefiance.com.
Registration is scheduled to open Sunday, May 26th.

Swim Defiance 2024 date is set for Saturday August 10th.

Registration will open May 19, 2024 at 10:00am.

Bernardo’s All Stars will again be having practice swims at Owen Beach for those already registered, closer to the event. In addition, this year we will also be having qualify swims for those that might question their speed and/or ability. The swims will most likely be in a lake, alternating between Angle Lake at SeaTac and American Lake in Lakewood. Those swims will be posted on this page as they are set, starting sometime in April. You MUST be a current registered member of U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) to participate in the Bernardo’s open water swims.

Just a reminder that the remaining Swim Defiance practices are at Owen Beach. I know Jack Hyde has been cleared for their water but we are not changing back at this time.
7/11 - 6:30pm at Owen Beach

Due to water conditions at Jack Hyde Park all Swim Defiance practice swims will be held at Owen Beach in Pt. Defiance Park.

We will meet at the top of the steps leading to the beach. I have a black kayak and will be in a black Bernardo's All Star shirt or tank top.

We are only 6 weeks away from our big event, Swim Defiance on August 6th 2023.

Cold open water swims to practice for the event begin this Wednesday June 28th. These swims are open to only those swimmers registered for the event plus any paying Bernardo's members. Any one wanting some kayaking practice you are welcome to attend also. The following is the schedule for these practices:

06/28 - Owen Beach in Pt. Defiance Park - 6pm

07/06 - Jack Hyde Beach Park - 6:30pm

07/11 - Jack Hyde Beach Park - 6:30pm

07/19 - Owen Beach in Pt. Defiance Park - 6:30pm

07/25 - Jack Hyde Beach Park - 6:30pm

07/31 - Owen Beach in Pt. Defiance Park - 6pm

To all: After much debate and careful consideration, The Bernardo’s All Stars has decided to hold off on Swim Defiance until next year. We are a newly formed non-profit and are still building our infrastructure. We want to make sure this event is done safely and correctly. We are still actively prepping for the event, and we plan to do a test run as a rehearsal this summer as well. We feel the crunch of time and are dealing with some logistical issues – but ensuring a safe and well-run event is our top priority. Thank you for everyone’s support – you’ll continue to get reports as things continue to develop.
