The Free State Brass Band is based in the vibrant college town of Lawrence, home to the renowned University of Kansas - in a city that has a historic brass banding connection that goes back as far as the establishment of the city in 1854. Members of the Free State Brass Band hail from the community, university, and the metro areas of Kansas City and Topeka in the heartland of the United States.
We are very excited to partner with the Olathe West High School Band program for our Christmas concert!

Join the Free State Brass Band as we do a combined concert with the Ottawa University Jazz Studies on Sunday, March 12th. The concert will be held at Ottawa University at 5 p.m. and admission is free!

Free State Brass Band is back for our Spring 2023 season! The band placed 3rd at the US Masters Brass Band Championship yesterday, with our star trombonist Andrew Anderson picking up the solo prize for his rendition of ‘Love of My Life’. We’d also like to thank Stuart O’Niell, Director of Bands at hour home in Baldwin High School, for his dramatic performance as narrator in our ‘A King’s Tale’.
The band would like to congratulate Frontier Brass Band and Colorado Brass on their placings, and Fountain City Academy on their performance.

The band had a great time in Atchison, Kansas, as guest artists to the Benedictine College Brass Band for their annual fall concert! We also welcomed back Brett Keating, former solo euphonium of the band, to guest conduct the massed bands! Next up is our preparation for the US Masters Contest in Kansas city, with our show, ‘A King’s Tale’ ❤️🤍💙
The band had a fun evening in Topeka recording a Christmas special for KTWU public television. We’ll let you know the broadcast date soon for our set of traditional, festive carols 🎄🎅
Free State Brass Band presents it's annual 'Proms Concert and Afternoon Tea' on Sunday 25th September at First United Methodist Church, Lawrence, KS.
There will be a selection of delicious British treats to enjoy at 12.30pm, and a concert including Edward Elgar's 'Ni**od' and 'Pomp and Circumstance' at 2.00pm.

We had a wonderful time playing at the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin on Friday. We have a full July as we will be performing at the KBA Summer Convention on the 21st, we hope to see you there!
