*January surprise to be announced*
I just returned from Moab, Utah as part of a team that participated in the Moab 240 Endurance “Run”. My friend, Pete was the 240 mile runner. I was crew, and pacer along with his wife, Naty and his nephew, Jeff.
If you never heard of the Moab 240 it is a 240 mile ultra Marathon in the mountains surrounding Moab, Utah. You have 116 hours to complete trails of rock, sand, gravel, desert, mountains and forest. And at an elevation gain and loss of 31,564 feet.
I can hardly put into words how this experience has changed me. It was bigger than I could have imagined. I will post more thoughts and photos in the coming weeks but for now I just want to shout out some of the people who helped me, even in the smallest ways, to make this dream a reality.
To Pete: Thank you for trusting me with your dream. I will forever be grateful for your friendship, this experience and for everything we learned on this journey. You will always be in my foxhole.
To Naty: Our friendship turned into family on this trip. You trusted me implicitly with your life and with the lives of those you love. I will always treasure our conversations, planning, conniving and laughter - especially the laughter.
This momma bear will always fight for her cubs.
To Jeff: I felt like I’ve known you my entire life. Your contagious smile, warm demeanor, and easy laughter are a feeling I will never forget. I’m still laughing at your impersonations of me. You are one of the greatest humans I have ever met. And, you are a beast!
To: Mike: You did not hesitate at all when I asked for your help. Your treatments, guidance, understanding, therapy sessions and friendship made my training possible. I could not have achieved my dream without you.
To everyone who helped me train, sent a text, gave encouragement, and offered support THANK YOU - you have no idea how much it meant to me. I am forever grateful.
To those who doubted my sanity and desire, thank you for giving me the fuel I needed when I felt desperate, alone, tired and sore. It filled my tank and set me on fire.

Overstepping Dragon
In yoga, this pose is called overstepping dragon. It is a great way to target a stretch of your calves and achilles tendon. It also defies the myth that you should never let your knee go forward past your toes.
Since I have been running and climbing a lot more lately this has been my go to stretch all summer. I had planned my yoga classes this week around the “overstepping dragon” and the story of the Greek warrior, Achilles. The story, found in the Iliad, describes how Achilles’ mother wanted to protect him and make him immortal so she dipped him in the magical waters of the River Styx holding him by the heal. He became invulnerable except to his heel where his mother held him. Ultimately, he met his demise by being shot with a poison arrow through that heel. Hence, a person’s vulnerability becomes their achilles heel.
A ruptured achilles tendon is no joke as this is the thickest, strongest tendon in the body. It attaches your heel (bone) to the gastrocnemius and soleus (muscles) in the back of your leg.
💚💚 I wish a full recovery to Aaron Rodgers, the NY Jets quarterback who ruptured his achilles tendon this week on Monday Night Football. 🙏

Yin yoga is different from all other yogas because it targets your deep connective tissues, fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward, to tune into your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Poses are held for much longer periods of time and move at a much slower pace. You learn how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts. This introspective yoga practice is simple but not easy.

Join us for our UHP flexibility workshop this SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 9am - 2pm
Ultimate Human Performance™ was created by Joe Hippensteel and uses ROM24™ (24 Ranges of Motion) to a standard for flexibility and mobility.
According to Joe, tight muscles are the #1 ailment and most pain and injuries are a byproduct from that. “Unbeknownst to most of the medical world, many of the biggest pain causes and lack of mobility issues like bone on bone knee joints, herniated or bulging discs, pinched nerves, headaches, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, low back pain, planter fasciitis, calcium deposits, torn labrums, torn rotator cuff, torn ligaments, other unknown sources of pain and a condition defined by the medical world called CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) are all caused most of the time by tight muscles.”
If you suffer from any of these conditions, let us teach you the Ultimate Human Performance™ training methodology. Before you opt for surgery, injections, or pills, let us help you heal yourself.
