I can still share beauty though

In true me fashion, I have put this post off for as long as I can. My husband received orders and we are moving 🥺 It is only a few hours away but too far to continue birth work in the area so my time here is at, if not an end, at the least, a pause. We will be back in three years and we shall see what life brings forward then. I could never in a million years come up with the words to tell you how much all of your support and trust over the years has meant to me. Just know that I have so very much love for you all and will still be around on facebook if you need/want to reach out!

Change is hard but it is not precisely loss...I will be doing my best to run with it and dance amongst it's waves ❤

"The world shifts around us and
we shape ourselves to fit.

Imperfect and beautiful...
.wounded and thriving...
.delicate, invincible,
forever moving on.

Time is not the tide.

It moves in only one direction.

[we must] go forth with courage and in hope.

Change is not loss.

We must run with it,
dance with it..."

🦃 Pass the gravy, not the baby 🌽

🥧 The holidays can get overwhelming for new parents AND baby. It is very easy to over-simulate a new baby, skip naps or feedings. Unless you’re going to go home with them to help with an over-tired baby, respect their boundaries please!

😷 The holidays also coincide with flu and RSV season! The least hands on baby, means the least exposure to germs. Even if you feel well, you could possibly pass something to baby that you don’t feel quite yet or that your body is strong enough to have a minimal reaction to, but dangerous for an infant. You can talk and look at baby without touching or kissing their hands and face!

🍠 Honestly, the reasons don’t really matter.. Parents are not required to let other people hold their baby (even if you’re family that they haven’t met yet 😬)

The First Year Again

It’s a little bit different
to the very first time,
all of your firsts
are no longer mine

No less special,
some lessons still new
Still realising
all of the things I can do

I know what’s in store
and the hard days do end
I break a bit less
as I’ve learnt how to bend

I’m not striving for perfect,
good enough will do
I don’t bother with books
I know to read you

I’m a little less bothered
with the toys and the mess
I know that achievements
means doing my best

I do what feels right
with a much louder voice
I guess you stop listening
when you block out the noise

But I don’t know it all,
I’m still caught by surprise,
more tired than ever
with much softer eyes

My arms are much stronger
as I’ve carried for years
There are maps on my face
from smiles and tears

I don’t chase the milestones
And I don’t count the days,
It’s much faster now
as I’m split in more ways

It’s more rushed than I’d like,
naps wherever we are
Let us just have a moment -
off we go in the car

It’s busy I know,
and some days I feel spent
While you are all smiles
and cheeks, and content

I catch myself wishing
as I watch you grow
I could go back to the start
with what I now know

But each one of you
have helped me grow tall
In the depths of these seasons,
the whirlwind of it all

You’ve given me shape
You’ve taught me to be
You handed me pieces
To this puzzle of me

I have done this before.
but I haven’t with you
This first year, my darling,
is entirely new.

Your body changes so much during pregnancy and there is never a better time to invest in your pelvic health.

Pelvic Floor Therapy can help prepare you for delivery! Therapists can teach you how to coordinate pelvic floor activations and relaxation in different labor positions, breathing techniques, and will begin to practice perineal stretches and massage to help reduce the risk of tearing.

Check out for more information! If you’d like to book an appointment, please reach out to Arkansas Pelvic Health.

I desperately wish these had been available with my youngest. Those hospital stays were incredibly traumatic and he will likely have life long respiratory consequences 😭

Good news! There are two new options to protect babies from RSV. RSV is a virus that typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but it can also lead to more serious lower respiratory tract disease, such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis, and can be life-threatening. This is particularly true for vulnerable patient cohorts such as preterm infants and infants with congenital muscular, respiratory, or cardiovascular disease. Approximately 1% to 3% of children under 12 months in the US are hospitalized each year due to RSV, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Abrysvo, the single-dose intramuscular approved for use in pregnant women between week 32 and week 36 of pregnancy. Efficacy against medically attended RSV-associated lower respiratory tract infection was shown to be 57.3% in clinical trials.

Beyfortus, also a single-dose intramuscular injection is a monoclonal antibody preventative that the CDC has recommended for all infants below eight months of age born during or entering their first RSV season and in high-risk children aged 8–19 months of age entering their second RSV season. It reduces the risk of severe RSV disease by about 80%. Except in rare circumstances, most infants younger than 8 months of age do NOT need Beyfortus if they were born 14 or more days after their mother received the Abrysvo vaccine.

Until now, the only preventative treatment was another monoclonal antibody called Synagis that is given once a month during RSV season. It costs about $1,000 a dose and is recommended only for babies at high risk for severe illness.

It’s worth noting that there have been some insurance coverage roadblocks for these preventatives. Health insurers have one year from when the CDC’s advisors recommend an immunization to start paying for it. Sanofi (maker of Beyfortus) said more than 90% of infants are already covered by health plans, and Pfizer (maker of Abrysvo) said it’s seeing early positive momentum. However, insurers acknowledge that people may still face delays as they update their policies. Coverage during the one-year implementation period will vary from plan to plan as system, technical, and coding issues may arise.

You should discuss these options with your clinical team and plan ahead by confirming your insurance coverage so there are no surprises!

🌟Happy National Midwifery Week! 🌟

This week, we celebrate the remarkable individuals who stand at the intersection of science, compassion, and courage. Midwives, the unsung heroes of childbirth, play a pivotal role in the journey of bringing new life into the world. Their dedication, expertise, and unwavering support are the cornerstones upon which countless families build their own stories of love, hope, and joy.

In a world that often rushes by, midwives remind us to pause, breathe, and savor the sacred moments of birth. They embrace the uniqueness of each journey, offering a safe and nurturing environment where families can flourish, babies can be born, and bonds can be strengthened.

National Midwifery Week is not only a time to honor these exceptional caregivers but also an opportunity to raise awareness about their essential role in our healthcare system. It's a chance to recognize that midwives are not just birth attendants but advocates for informed choices, protect maternal and infant health, and are champions of holistic care.

As we celebrate this week, let us extend our heartfelt gratitude to midwives everywhere for their unwavering commitment to the well-being of families and the beauty of childbirth. Let's also take a moment to reflect on the importance of midwifery care and how it contributes to healthier, happier communities.

To all the midwives out there, thank you for your dedication, passion, and tireless efforts in bringing new life into this world. Your compassion and expertise empower families, and your legacy of love continues to ripple through generations.
