Leslie’s Story … For several years, my Real Estate Assistant and her brother wished for their mother to move to a metropolitan City like Saint Petersburg, but mom didn’t think she could afford it. One morning, I woke up with a plan … I had an affordable two bedroom condominium listed for sale just nine blocks north of downtown and when I put a pencil to the Net/Net Sale and Purchase figures I convinced mom, Leslie, that she would have the extra funds to make the move. We sold her well-maintained HOA home of 26 years in quiet Winter Springs, FL and transitioned her into 55+ living at Edward Lawrence Condos just north of our vibrant walkable downtown area. Leslie is a happy Seller and even happier Buyer. It's so gratifying when a plan comes together!!!!

On 12 November 2023 at our Sunday class, Bob and Sue Peirson from the Dunedin chapter of The New World Celts presented a most generous donation to The Dunedin Scottish Country Dancers. Bob and Sue are both former Scottish Country Dancers and also founding members of The New World Celts, a charitable organization to perpetuate Celtic Culture and history. After accepting the donation for the DSCD, Cal Lloyd related a story about Bob as a dancer. About 20 years ago, our demonstration team was presenting a dance at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Dunedin. During one dance while executing some Highland Steps with our hands in the air, Bob’s kilt starting slipping down. He was able to grab it with one hand while continuing to dance and even changed hands when switching to the other foot. From then on, be wore braces (suspenders) with his kilt.

It was grand joining many other nationalities in celebrating and promoting our cultures by participating in the 48th Annual SPIFFS Saint Petersburg International Folk Fair.

During the Thursday and Friday “Student Days” we boasted about Golf originating in Scotland and Saturday’s highlights were Ceilidh, Lanky Lassie’s Shortbread samples, Gemma’s bagpipes, Dunedin Scottish Country Dancers and the Parade of Nations.

We are ever grateful for our Volunteers … Gary, Sylvia and Ceilidh Graham, Bev Becker, Jeff and Kim Wells, Malcolm Wells, Samantha Wassmer, Chris and Sarah Lynn Markham, Bill Parsons and Kay Rencken. An event not to miss next year!

Pinellas County guests and residents ... Don't miss this year's Saint Petersburg International Folk Fair tomorrow, Saturday, October 21st at Albert Whitted Park just west of the Dali Museum. Our Dunedin Royal Scottish Country Dancers are on stage at 11:10 AM and my favorite is the ethnic foods and Parade of Nations starting a 2:00 PM. See you at the Scottish tent between 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM!!!
