Have you noticed a strange smell lingering around, or maybe you’re feeling a bit “off” and can’t quite figure out why? 👃😕

Mold in your home might be the culprit! 🦠

This fungus among us isn’t just an eyesore - mold can impact indoor air quality and health over time. The particles it releases are so small they can enter your body through the air you breathe, increasing your toxic load and triggering an immune response

The good news? Spotting mold early can make all the difference because you’ll be able to tackle it faster and deal with less exposure. AND the less likely more issues will develop elsewhere in the home

🔍 Take a few minutes this week to inspect your home, especially those overlooked areas like the toilet tank, underneath sinks, and the attic.

Again, the sooner you find mold, the sooner you can act!

SWIPE 👉 for key signs to look out for when you’re searching around

If you don’t find anything but notice an odor or just aren’t feeling well at home, order The Dust Test to see if there are any hidden problems in areas you can’t easily see

A quick home check now could save you a lot of trouble down the line. Ready to dig deeper? 🤓 Comment “mold quiz” below, and we’ll send you a link to our mold assessment! Also, let us know if you’d like more info on The Dust Test

The quality of the air we breathe in our homes is crucial to our health.

A whole house air purifier is a powerful tool for reducing the microscopic particles and contaminants in our indoor environment, leading to a healthier living space.

Unlike portable units, which only target specific areas, whole house systems are installed at the point of entry, effectively turning your HVAC system into a comprehensive filtration system for your entire home.

This investment ensures cleaner air AND protects your HVAC unit from mold spores and other pollutants, which can cause serious health issues over time, providing long-term reassurance and confidence in your living space.

The benefits are even more pronounced for those with preexisting conditions or allergies. Moreover, cleaner air supports our immune systems and overall wellness, making it a smart investment for everyone.

I think I have mold. Where should I start with removing it? | HomeCleanse 21/10/2024

Think you've got mold?

Start by contacting your insurance company and figuring out what your policies will cover. Use The Dust Test in the interim to get a baseline understanding of what is going on in the home while you’re working on getting answers. Then, get a mold inspector to assess the situation. You can hire a remediation team from there to resolve the issue properly.

This ensures you get as much help as possible to restore your home to normal ecological levels.

⚠️ After a hurricane, knowing who to trust when restoring your home is crucial. While some companies truly want to help, others may cut corners in a rush for profit, leaving homes improperly remediated and families at risk. 🏡💧

A decade ago, Hurricane Sandy taught us hard lessons—many homes looked fine but were extremely toxic due to substandard remediation. You cannot let this happen to you! 🚫

After a hurricane, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything that needs attention, but one thing you don’t want to overlook is mold 🦠🌪️

It can start growing in just 24 hours, and dealing with hidden mold is the last thing you need!😣 Not only can it harm your health, but mold can also cause expensive damage if it’s not caught early.

Here are 10 places you should check for potential mold growth:

1. Basements and Crawl Spaces: These areas often trap moisture, so look for any standing water or damp spots.

2. Ceilings and Attics: Roof leaks can lead to serious issues - inspect for water stains or sagging drywall.

3. Walls and Insulation: Check behind walls for stains or peeling paint, as moisture can easily hide here.

4. Floors and Carpets: Wet flooring can be a breeding ground for mold, so pay attention to any softness or musty smells.

5. HVAC Systems: Mold can circulate through your air ducts, so ensure your HVAC system is inspected and cleaned.

6. Cabinets and Furniture: Porous materials can absorb moisture - check under and behind your cabinets and furniture.

7. Windows and Doors: Look for condensation or leaks around frames that could lead to mold growth.

8. Appliances: Inspect refrigerators, dishwashers, and water heaters for any leaks or dampness.

9. Outdoor Equipment: Items like grills and patio furniture can retain moisture, so check them thoroughly.

10. Any Areas with Standing Water: Don't overlook places where water might accumulate, like the foundation or drainage areas.

Taking these steps can help ensure your home stays safe and healthy. As a final step, use at at-home DIY kit like The Dust Test once all issues have been dealt with to ensure that there are no hidden issues.

It can feel like a lot, but catching mold early makes a huge difference👍If your home flooded, go ahead and have a qualified inspector come out to assess the space once it has dried out and all impacted material has been properly dealt with.

Is your home hiding harmful issues??

Your home should be a safe space, but hidden contaminants in the air could affect your health without you even realizing it.

So, how do you know IF there’s a problem without spending money on bringing in a professional to test the space? This question led us to develop an at-home DIY kit called The Dust Test.

Contaminants like mold spores and bacteria settle on surfaces within the home and become a part of the dust. With The Dust Test, you can easily collect dust samples from around your home and send them to a lab for analysis! If there are high levels of contaminants, it indicates a problem that requires a professional inspection. You can then give the results to an inspector and ask them to find the sources of those contaminants.

But be cautious - not all inspection professionals are thorough. Some skip essential steps, leaving more significant air quality issues unnoticed.

When it's time to hire, choose someone who will take a comprehensive approach that takes a minimum of a few hours and uses various testing methods and tools.

Your health and peace of mind depend on finding the real problems in your home.

Signs of Mold in a Home: Your Guide to Avoiding a Health Hazard 05/09/2024

Identifying mold in your home can be challenging, especially when it's not immediately visible.

Mold can cause significant health issues and worsen indoor air quality, making it crucial to understand and address the signs promptly. While obvious mold growth is a clear indicator, here are some other clues to watch for:

1. Unusual odors: A damp, musty, earth, cigar-like smell often signals hidden mold as it releases MVOCs.

2. Water damage: Signs like leaks, discoloration of materials like paint or fabrics, and sagging in areas like the flooring or ceiling can indicate moisture problems, which create an opportunity for microbial growth.

3. Chronic Health Issues: Persistent symptoms such as respiratory problems or fatigue may be linked to mold exposure occurring in the home.

Understanding and detecting these signs early can help you more quickly address any issues and prevent more severe exposure and chronic health problems. For detailed information on how to spot and address mold issues, read the full post here:

Does your washing machine have a musty smell?👃

That could be a sign of MOLD hiding inside!

With all the moisture, detergent residue, and mineral buildup, your washing machine can quickly become a breeding ground for mold.

And the worst part? This mold can impact your air quality and contaminate your clothes - all of which affect your health! 😦

But there’s good news - tackling mold in your washing machine is straightforward. Here are the cliffnotes:

1. Wear protective gear and fill a spray bottle with a botanical cleaner like white vinegar.
2. Soak the detergent tray in vinegar for 30 minutes.

We have some exciting news! Our founder, Michael Rubino’s, SXSW 2025 Conference proposal, The New Competitive Edge: Air Quality + Performance, has reached the voting stage. And we need YOUR help (and vote!) to share information on indoor air quality on this global platform! 🌎

We are so thankful to be joined by the incredible Logan Ryan 🏈, 2x Super Bowl Champion, and former NFL player, to tackle a major issue that impacts athletes and individuals worldwide: poor indoor air quality. ☣️💨

An athlete’s body is their business. The healthier they are, the better they play. 💪 The NFL's comprehensive staff directs diet, supplements, water intake, sleeping habits, workouts, etc. Their job is to optimize their health to optimize their performance. Logan realized something, though…. Indoor air quality was his ticket to advanced performance.

Which got him thinking! 🤔 How many other athletes would benefit from breathing better air? It’s time that we added breathing healthier air to athletic fitness programs. By improving their air, we can add another layer of intensity to their ability to perform.

This goes further, though– How much healthier will mothers, fathers, children, students, pets, 9-5 workers, the elderly, and everyone else in society be if we improve indoor air quality? 💁 How could it help YOU? 🫵 Everyone can benefit from cleaner air.

Please help us create greater awareness regarding this issue so that Logan and Michael can discuss this crucial topic at the 2025 South by Southwest® Conference.

College should be about making memories, NOT dealing with mold exposure! 🙅‍♂️

Alarmingly, more and more schools are being added to the list of institutions reporting mold in college dorms and classrooms. Check out moldu.org for a list of impacted locations in the past five years alone.

With this health epidemic on the rise, it’s important to be proactive.

From day one, 🔎 check your room for mold - look in all the nooks and crannies and pay attention for any musty smells.

If you do find any signs of mold, it's crucial that you inform the school immediately. Don't move your belongings in until the issue is resolved. This step is vital to prevent cross-contamination and protect your new items.

Once you’re moved in, it’s all about prevention! 💡 Here are THREE simple steps to keep your space mold-free:

1. Clean often and use an air purifier.
2. Keep humidity levels between 35-50%.
3. Report any leaks or moisture issues immediately.

We need to work together to ensure college stays a place of learning, not a breeding ground for chronic health issues. For more tips on how to handle mold, check out moldu.org.

🖌️ Painting over mold might seem like a quick fix.. but it’s NOT the solution!

Mold will keep growing under that coat of paint, which can lead to bigger issues.

Plus, it can use the paint as a food source, eventually leading to it bubbling and flaking away. The result: the mold colony popping right back up and continuing to cause harmful exposures🦠

Noticing MOLD in your toilet might seem like a small issue...

But it could signal a bigger problem lurking in your home.

While the lid isn’t hermetically sealed, there’s very little air transfer between the inside and outside of the tank. A lucky spore could have found its way inside, but it’s far more likely that there were enough spores in the air from another mold colony in the home, leading to it opportunistically beginning to grow in this location.

So, if you spot mold in your toilet, there’s probably a hidden mold colony somewhere else in your house (yikes!!)

Check spots like your basement, attic, and under the sinks because mold LOVES damp, hard-to-reach places.

If you’re not seeing obvious issues but still suspect a problem, the first step will be to test your dust with The Dust Test! This will provide data allowing you to either have peace of mind that your home is fine OR give you a starting point for hiring a mold inspector.

Many landlords fall short of providing mold-free, water-damage-free rentals. WHY?

1. Many landlords simply don’t realize how crucial air quality is for tenant health. The presence of mold can cause severe respiratory issues, allergies, and other health problems 😧

2. The "experts" hired by landlords often only conduct BASIC air tests. These tests can miss hidden problems, such as mold lurking behind walls or under flooring, leading to an incomplete picture of the property's air quality.

3. Most landlords don’t carry mold insurance or have minimal coverage - which means they face significant out-of-pocket costs for repairs. This financial burden often leads to a reluctance to address mold issues properly, leaving tenants in potentially hazardous living conditions.

It’s a flawed system in need of reform. 💡 We must advocate for better standards and support for both landlords and tenants!
