Microsoft Office workshops return for the 2024-2025 school year! Here is the schedule for the next 4 months! Register today and gain powerful new skills!

Do you or someone you love struggle using computers? Join Computer Essentials. In this class you will learn everything from the very basics of using a mouse to working with spreadsheets. Class is held 1-3:30 Monday-Thursday, starting September 3-January 22.

Looking to expand your knowledge of IT with an additional certification? Join us for CompTIA Network+! This class three month class is designed to prepare students for the exam to obtain a CompTIA Network+ certification.

Interested in getting into IT as a career, but unsure of where to start? Join us for CompTIA A+! This class three month class is designed to prepare students for the 2 part certification exam to obtain a CompTIA A+ certification.

Today, we honor freedom. In 1865, on this very day of June 19th, Major General Gordon Granger led Union forces into Galveston, Texas. Major General Granger addressed the people to announce General Orders 3. This order stated,

“The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor."

This event marked the end of the Civil War, and freedom to over 250,00 black slaves across the United States. This momentous historical event has become known as Juneteenth. It is a day of celebration and a day to remember.

Last Thursday, we celebrated with our English Language Learners for another successful year! 🎉 We're incredibly proud of their progress and dedication.

On Thursday, June 6th, we held our graduation and certificate presentation ceremony for the 2023-2024 school year. It was a busy year!

This year, we had eight high school diploma graduates. These students finished the final credits to their high school diplomas.

Eight students earned their GED with direct help from Mounds View Adult Education staff. More indirectly, throughout the year, seventy-five people came through our test center and passed their GEDs.

Many of our students also had success obtaining certifications. Twenty-five students completed our ParaEducator classes, with some not only obtaining certifications but jobs in local districts. Another eighteen students participated in our certified nursing assistant program.

For IT, five students passed a CompTIA exam this year. Another twenty-five students completed one or more North Star Digital Literacy certifications.

We congratulate these hard working students and celebrate their achievements!

Today, we, at Mounds View Adult Education, are saying goodbye to a very special teacher. Teacher Ellen Barrett retired today after over 2 and a half decades of teaching in our program. In that time, she has worked with thousands of students as one of our team of English Language teachers. Elli has been a backbone to our program for so long, and we are thankful for her wisdom and patience. We wish her all the best in the next exciting journey she embarks on! We love you Elli!!!

We wanted to extend our thanks to teacher Linda for another excellent year! Thank you Linda, and we hope to see you next fall!

Next week Word 365 returns! Brush off the dust with our basics lesson (June 4), learn new tricks with our intermediate lesson (June 5), and pursue the skills of experts with our advanced lesson (June 6).

We are deeply honored to have Dress for Success join us again today for their event supplying women and anyone who identifies as a woman with professional clothes. While they were here, they met with 11 people for fittings and style consultation. We are so thankful for your continued partnership!

On the last day of Staff Appreciation Week, we are recognizing bus drivers. Though they are employed through outside bus companies, they serve an important role in getting our students to and from school safely each day. Bus drivers are often the first and last staff members that our students see each day, and are always there to provide a friendly smile and a safe and comfortable ride to and from school.
Thank you to all of our bus drivers for your dedication. You are an invaluable asset to our District community!

Next week, a favorite workshop returns! Join us for a three day workshop about Microsoft Excel. This sampling of what Excel 365 has to offer will help you learn it all, from understanding the basic layout of a spreadsheet to advanced chart manipulation.

Today we are recognizing our principals and non-affiliated staff. Principals lead our schools and ensure that our students receive high quality education and support. Non-affiliated staff hold a variety of roles in our District from human resources and payroll specialists to public relations, mostly working out of the District Center.

Our principals and associate principals are dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive environment for students and staff, while our non-affiliated staff work behind the scenes to keep the wheels turning in all areas of District administration.
