We have known each-other for up to 50% of our lives. We have made music in public and private for most of this time. The new name for these collaborative works is ZACHT AUTOMAAT. ZA inhabits the middle of the Venn diagram consisting of two sets of musical beliefs: his and mine. We will give you no names to reference, or genres.To whatever extent it is possible we will let the recordings speak. We

To us it seems that Music is an infinitely large forest that we are permitted to wander in. There are many wholesome places in this wood where we might sit a while and ponder, and other noxious places that we avoid except when most curious. There are deep and clear streams whose sources are remote and many glades where flowers gather. Old stone walls can be found returning to the earth, covered in dark mosses. Curious and familiar wild beasts roam the wood with us. At night it can be an awful place to be alone but there is grandeur in this terror. Day follows night, mostly. There is no vantage point from which you might survey the whole forest, it can only be absorbed in pieces. We seek to explore and understand this rich and mysterious place but it is too vast. Returning to a known place it seems changed. Unknown vistas, when discovered, have a striking relationship to distant and apparently unrelated parts. We cut a random path through this Smiling Wilderness remembering what we can but forgetting most. We don't know where we are going, or where we've been. Occasionally we meet fellow travellers. There are rumours of great edifices forgotten deep in the wood. We ourselves have made several small huts in out-of-the way places. We have gathered wood and cleared a hearth in each... if you ever find yourself nearby feel free to stay a while. We have left and are now someplace else but we enjoyed it there, once.
