Bridge Violin and Fiddle worlds / Annemieke
Violin and fiddle instruction, Annasemble and Young Annasemble. The Bridge - bridging the gap betwee
The Bridge - Connecting Violin and Fiddle Worlds, is the title of the book I wrote ( culicidae press: https://www.culicidaepress.com/2015/11/15/pronker-coron-the-bridge/ )
Typically fiddlers refer to classical violinists as musicians using a completely different technique than their own, e.g. the use of long-drawn bows and vibrato are main pillars of the classical approach. At the very beginning

Here is an introduction to Amelyse Arroyo and Arroyo Bows. I wish her lots of wonderful success with her bows! Good bowmakers and good bows, like instruments, are not easy to find :-)
Kelsey LaCour will play in Lake City on Saturday November 4 :-)
Wanted to share this information with everyone- Kelsey LaCour is holding a free concert on Saturday , November 4th in Lake City.
Please come enjoy a lovely program by an amazing and wonderful violinist.
Here is why at any time you get a chance: go to a workshop, go to a concert; even if the concert/workshop is not in the style you play in:
"In Your Brain on Art, Magsamen and Ross describe how a person's neural circuitry changes in response to activities like learning a new song, or a new dance step, or how to play a character onstage." NPR Jon Hamilton
Something special happened to me, when I attended a fiddle workshop. Learning a Strathspey from Hanneke Cassel:
I was doing well and could handle the listening, watching and following well. And then there were the intricacies of bowing and left hand additions, such as adding "the wiggle" (like an upside down or inverted trill). There was a huge amount of information coming at me all at once and then I thought: I can do this! I sharpened my attention just a bit more and then I felt (literally!) as if something - even just for a moment or two - opened in my brain. A clarity. Wow! It would proof a pasticity in the brain - even at my age (whatever that age may be).
Yet another reason for all of you to pick up an instrument, take lessons and start playing, no matter your age. Read this article - it really is more and more proven that it is "ludricous" not to be actively involved with some form of art. As a musician I suggest: music. The more we are connected to the online sources of passive entertainment...we need that direct involvement to stimulate our brain for our health and for doing better at any age!
Building a better brain through music, dance and poetry Art can make the brain's wiring stronger, more flexible and ready to learn, say the authors of a new book, Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us.
Workshop - this Saturday - 11 AM-12:30 PM!!
By: Hanneke Cassel - Celtic/Scottish fiddle music
Hanneke Cassel is coming to Gainesville and on Saturday morning, after her Friday evening concert with Yann Falquet, she will give a workshop in Celtic/Scottish fiddling at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville:
It truely is amazing to get a chance to learn from her. You do not need to be a fiddler to benefit from her tuition. Playing the violin, you are likely not (as) familiar with some of the wonderful techniques she may share with you. To broaden your horizon in the syle you play in, will only enhance your music!
Hanneke is on the faculty of the Mike Block String Camp, that takes place July 10-15 in Vero Beach. Look at the faculty page of the Mike Block website and you can see it is made up of amazing musicians, of whom she is a part. This Saturday Hanneke can give you a taste of what it is like to sit in a workshop and learn, while having lots of fun with music. Hanneke's energy spills over and is hard not to be influenced by! 🙂

I just had a conversation regarding the event that is coming up this Sunday. Annasemble is hosting the play-along orchestra workshop as part of a community fest that is organized in coordination with the STAR Center Theatre and the Caring & Sharing school. Is our Community Arts Fest a community event? It appears a "no-brainer" As we invite you: all string playing members of the community (see www.annasemble.org ) to join us for a day of playing music together. The selection we will work on and perform: the Shenandoah River or Sea Chanty. The story will be sung, acted out and danced on by young people. The orchestra of all ages will accompany. In this community spirit I also just came across these words of inspiration:
"Music in our heart and soul brings peace and internal growth in unimaginable ways:
The rhythm of the earth, the rhythm of our lives and the rhythm within each of us help shape us and connect us with each other. APC 😉 "
See you Sunday! 🙂

Alan Stowell... Years ago now I met Alan. He was interested in the different fiddle styles, the aspects of violin playing and reading music; he was interested in my book, the Bridge. Moreover: he was one of the judges at the Sawgrass Fiddle Contest for young musicians. A local fiddler in Gainesville, his heart was with the music and with sharing the music, via teaching. He was a great fiddler and it makes me wonder: how much do we appreciate those folks with great talent and dedication - who happen to be local? This is a great recording! May you rest in peace, Alan.
Alan Stowell - Reel Du Pendu Some amazing fiddle playing.
This promises to be great fun! If you play an acoustic string instrument, do consider signing up for this day of playing along with and in the orchestra!
We will send you music and further information. Also: if you play guitar, mandolin, ukulele and are used to playing chords: you are welcome!! A good way to contact us is by going to the Annasemble website and scroll down to the Shenandoah flyer.
