Happy Jackie Robinson Day !!!!

Jackie Robinson Day is a traditional event which occurs annually on April 15 in Major League Baseball , commemorating and honoring the day Jackie Robinson made his major league debut. Lesser known though is after the game Jackie was an entrepreneur. He joined Chock full o’Nuts as Vice President of Personnel in 1957. The first African American to be named a Vice President of a major American company. He used his position at Chock full o’ Nuts to improve working conditions for employees.

An active member of the NAACP, Robinson was often a featured speaker at civil rights rallies including the famed March on Washington in 1963, and frequently participated in picket lines. As a nationally syndicated columnist for the New York Post and New York Amsterdam News, Robinson wrote passionately on social issues, sports, and family life, always encouraging people in his community to become active in politics and business. In 1964, Robinson co-founded Freedom National Bank of Harlem, a Black owned and operated bank created for the express purpose of financially aiding African American communities. In 1970, he founded the Jackie Robinson Construction Company, which sought to provide housing for low-income people.

Please Bring Chips (PBC), a growing catering company in Washington, D.C., is looking for a Director of Operations.
PBC got its start as a bunch of friends supporting pop-up art events. The company has since grown to become a caterer specializing in pop-up activations and festivals. Our team has been fortunate enough to work venues ranging from mud pits to Smithsonian galleries, and served events ranging from 10 to 10,000 attendees. We aim to become THE caterer that supports D.C.’s most engaging cultural events. We are looking for someone amazing to join the family and help us grow.

The Director of Operations (DO) will manage the day-to-day operations of PBC, while working closely with the Managing Partner to ensure operations are congruent with long-term organizational goals. The position expects at least 40-hours a week, for one year. Duties will include interfacing with clients, creating proposals and invoices, coordinating and managing events, maintaining and developing business records and systems, coordinating with vendors, managing internal projects, and supervising team members. The DO should also have a strong pulse and feedback loop on team needs.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, a creative problem solver, detail-oriented, ridiculously organized, professional, self-motivated, and ready to learn. Comfort with word processing and spreadsheets is necessary. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with experience in bars, restaurants, event planning and/or catering, who are interested in helping build the business and the role. An ability to deploy dad jokes in stressful situations is a huge plus.

The position requires flexibility to work daytime hours, in addition to nights and weekends as necessary.

Interested parties should email [email protected] with a cover letter, resume and an interesting personal fact.

It’s Earth Day!!

Like any other human activity, the events we all love produce a lot of waste.

As we rise out of the trials of 2020, it is our goal to rebuild in a manner that eliminates single-use plastics from our operations to make every event more environmentally responsible.

We value the opportunity to help create great experiences. We also recognize that we all have to make big changes to ensure great experiences can happen in the future.
