Please open your hard to a shelter dog ♥️🙏🏽
Teddy was rescued from a puppy mill when he was 5-years-old. He was given to a rescue shelter where I volunteered. He was so terrified of people that he wouldn’t let anyone near him.
The shelter was doing an adoption event just a few days after they received Teddy, and they decided to take him. I was volunteering at the event, and I tried to get him out of the cage to go potty. He couldn’t figure out how to get out of the cage or walk on a leash. I worked with him and got him to a point where he could do both.
He had only one person interested in him and it was a pregnant woman with a 3-year-old. I knew that would not be a good situation for him, so she was told no. We ended up taking him back to the shelter...

This month, The No Kill Advocacy Center turns 20. And we are asking our supporters to celebrate with us by sending just 20 dollars: donorbox.org/the-no-kill-advocacy-center.
In many ways, we are still a young organization. But we have accomplished a lot. When we started, mass killing in shelters was the norm. Only one community saved healthy and treatable dogs, cats, community cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, and other shelter animals. It didn't matter if they were young, old, blind, or missing limbs. It didn’t matter if they were healthy, sick, injured, or traumatized. They were all guaranteed a home, and they all found one. Our director created that No Kill community and we have succeeded in replicating its success in communities across the country.
The nationwide embrace of the No Kill Equation — our proven and revolutionary approach to lifesaving — is responsible for a 95% decline in U.S. killing from its high point. It has been called “the single biggest success of the modern animal protection movement.”

He lived at the gas station and spent hours there. 🐕 The man who owned the station decided to make him a bed. He immediately laid down and spent hours on his new bed happily sleeping. The owner is now in the process of adopting and taking him home!

On December 27, 2023, police arrested Domenico Zaccone for allegedly torturing and killing his uncle's 3-year-old German shepherd Paco and hiding the body last August.
An investigation was launched when police responded to a call regarding a person in distress at Zaccone's house, where they learned Paco was missing. After further investigation, they found Paco's remains in a wooded area nearby.
The account of what happened is very disturbing and hard to read:
Paco had three different collars tied together to restrain him and was secured in such a way that he could not move away from the violence. The arrest warrant claimed that Paco had “sticks shoved up each nostril” as well as “a large stab wound (approximately 2") to his torso." He also had "puncture wounds to his neck and face areas," from the steel tines of the rake the police found. Additionally, "Paco's feet appeared rubbed raw as if Paco was bound or dragged,” and a branch had been shoved between Paco's neck and the collars, which was likely to have been used to choke Paco.

ANIMAL NEGLECT ARREST
On August 24, 2023, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship in regards to animal welfare concerns at 3027 540th St SW, Riverside. The Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship authorities were conducting an inspection at a commercial dog breeding facility, Sunset Valley Farm, owned by Loren Yoder. During the inspection, a large number of dogs were discovered to be neglected.
Yoder surrendered all of his 131 dogs to the care of Iowa City Animal Services. Thorough physical exams conducted by assisting veterinarians determined many dogs had developed conditions caused by failure to adequately care for the animals. These conditions then caused unjustified distress, suffering, and pain to the affected animals. Yoder surrendered his commercial breeding license through the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship
On March 6, 2024, Loren Yoder, 62, Riverside, was arrested and charged with the following criminal charges:
• 5 counts of Animal Neglect – 717B.3(4) (Serious Misdemeanor)
• 36 counts of Animal Neglect – 717B.3(3) (Simple Misdemeanor)
Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Iowa City Animal Services, Johnson County Emergency Management, and Johnson County Attorney’s Office.
Disclaimer: a criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

STOP DEEP SEA MINING – NORWAY APPROVED commercial deep sea mining. Despite warnings from environmental scientists about the devastating consequences to marine life, Norway is the first country to move forward with deep sea mining after a parliamentary vote. Mining starts in Norwegian waters, which cover an area larger than Britain. An agreement to mine international waters is expected soon.
Corporations will be able to apply for licenses to mine the deep sea, Earth’s largest ecosystem, where species are still being discovered. The deep sea encompasses 95% of the ocean’s volume and may be the largest carbon sink on the planet. If the experiment goes wrong, it could destabilize the ocean, trigger food insecurity, and have a devastating impact on all life on earth.
Please add your name to the letter to the United Nationals and International Seadbed Authority leaders – NOW.
