Steve Reid - Rhythmatism (1976)

There’s a lot to love about Steve Reid. He always surrounds himself with amazing musicians. Among them here is Western MA bass legend and frequent collaborator David Wertman, free jazz visionary Arthur Doyle, as well as Charles Tyler and Les Walker both who have impressive careers as leaders and sidemen. Then, he challenges the role of the drummer. Frequently testing changes in time and tempo, an unmistakable signature to his modal / avant stylings. And as always, killer design and typography adorn his albums, such as the beautiful b&w embossed artwork on this particular album. In the shop now ~ 🖤

Call your uncle Marty…’cause we got some serious stuff for the Led heads right here. ‘69 was gonna be a righteous time, and the next few years would be the cauldron of inspiration for the new generation of rock n roll and many other innovative sounds that soon came. One simply can’t deny the greatness of this four piece, the whole damn band was on point and wrote a good amount of tunes overall…I’d say the only thing we could remove is the extra adlibs of Robert Plant. You can tell I like starting arguments with rock dads. Anyways, we got a few special treats available today…
