Hear me out: what if, instead of perfectly posed and dressed photos, we capture your family in your own fun environment? Whether you’re at the pool, baking cookies, skateboarding down the street, or getting messy at the ice cream shop, I’m here for all of it! Let’s capture your family’s true essence. Also, a friendly reminder: my fall schedule is booking up quickly, so if you’re considering photos this fall, be sure to reach out soon!
If you haven’t heard the news, my kids are currently in California with my parents to see and hang out with their cousins for the next *almost* two weeks which means I actually have time to post on Instagram again!! I plan on spending this time working but also, relaxing and recharging because before you know it, fall is going to be here and that’s my busiest time of year!! Crazy to think I’m already planning sessions for that time so here is your friendly reminder, if you are wanting first grabs at a fall date, make sure to contact me asap and let’s get you scheduled!!
Oh wow, I had a feeling this session was going to be amazing when they first told me about their nursery during last year’s announcement photos. But they truly outdid themselves with the “Bridgerton” vibes that this sweet mama envisioned! It’s always soo fun to capture announcement or maternity photos and then get to meet the adorable baby earth-side and I absolutely loved being able to capture this sweet time in their lives!!
Count me in for any day spent capturing families having a blast in their pool and soaking up the sweet essence of summer! And now I’m strongly considering offering some pool summer minis... who’s in?
Oh my goodness…Guess what?! Seats for the ‘Beautifully Enough Retreat’ with me and are opening up tomorrow morning (Monday June 10th) at 10am EST! This is the ultimate getaway for all you incredible family and motherhood photographers or those of you who want to be! Picture a weekend bursting with creativity, inspiration, and new friends – it’s going to be beyond amazzzing! 📸✨ So, set your alarms, mark your calendars, and get ready to grab your spot. These are going to go faster than a toddler with a cookie! Don’t miss out on the fun, education, inspiration and a weekend you won’t forget!!
It’s not every day that I get to take maternity photos of a New York Times Best Selling Author, but when I do, I make sure to capture at least one double exposure shot and I must admit, I’m obsessed!
I was incredibly honored to photograph . She reached out to me while I was in the middle of reading one of her books (A Flicker In The Dark), which made the experience even more special. Getting to know her and her husband beyond the brief bio at the end of her novels was a delight. I am so excited for them as they prepare to welcome their sweet little babe very soon!
Just realized I posted three reels in a row and figured it was time for a normal post because I have to be honest, I am team photo over reels!! What about you??
But all the reels were for a good reason to promote my newest retreat for motherhood and family photographers with here in the ever so beautiful Charleston!! Make sure to message me or comment down below if you were wanting to be added to the waitlist for more info on that retreat or I currently have two seats left for my retreat in September!! Soo much goodness and fun coming up!!
Capturing pure chaos and newborn bliss – where older siblings steal the spotlight and imperfection becomes the magic behind every shot
Just a friendly reminder that my summer calendar is filling up quickly and I don’t have much availability left!! Be sure to reach out so that we can get you booked! And don’t worry, we can beat the heat and humidity by going to the beach and makes for the perfect sessions!!
“Why would you wanna marry me for, anyhow!”
“So I can kiss you anytime I want.”
Ahhhh as much as I love a good family session, there is something special about walking around downtown Charleston with a married couple on their 10 year anniversary trip who left their kids at home!! And cannot wait to photograph their whole family this fall!!
Raise your hand if you have had photos taken by me and it felt absolutely chaotic and yet the photos still turned out?! I am a big believer that photos should not feel staged or forced and instead should be fun so that everyone can walk away from the session with not only great photos, but good memories as well!! At the start of every session, I let my families know that I am going to bring that chaos and spoiler alert…I do every single time. Seats for my next go on sale TOMORROW and I am going to talk alllllll about posing, families and bringing the chaos to our imperfectly perfect lives because we are NOT perfect, so why should we expect our photos to be?!
Here’s your sign to try new things at your sessions. Do the double exposure, bring a fun camera, try new angles and poses, get the blurry and out of focus photo, do the “weird” things, let your families play..you’ll be amazed at what happens!! I, personally, am trying to get as creative as I can with all my sessions so that every family session is unique in its own and telling that families story!! Taken at a shootout with .photography where I was able to let myself get creative and am obsessed with the outcome!!
As I’m getting ready for my seats to my next to go on sale next week, I figured I should probably keep sharing the amazing sessions we were able to shoot at this last one! We thought our Saturday morning session was going to get rained out and that family was unable to move to Sunday so I last minute found another family that was available Sunday morning!! Turned out our Saturday morning session did NOT get rained out and so we were able to squeeze in another session and shot a total of SIX families at the retreat and these are the results of our last session!! And if you want any more info on the next retreat in September, be sure to check out my Instagram story highlight called Retreat 3.0 or message me and I can answer any questions!!
Something I always preach to my workshop attendees is to get on the OTHER side of the camera because not only is important to get your own families memories documented, but it’s also soooo important to feel those same feelings your clients feel..the worry of if the kids are going to behave, the craziness of your kids running around, the stress of getting to the location on time! One of the best things us photographers can offer our clients is empathy…to know EXACTLY how parents are feeling in certain moments so that we can navigate them out of those negative feelings and bring them back to the happy moments! And let’s take a moment and talk about how at one point in my families photography history..Charleigh Fae would literally scream and cry the.entire.session. And look at her now! So I’m here to also offer hope to those of you with younger kids…it gets better!! And big thanks to one of my past workshop attendees for snapping these photos of our perfectly imperfect family and letting me do the editing :)
Ok I knowwwww it is wayyy too late to post but I just can’t help myself!! After a way too busy of a day full of the gym, friends, wallpaper, ninja, dance, soccer and volleyball…I’m finally home for the day and have a second to post so have to share this session!! It was the perfect amount of calm and chaos and I am obsessed!! We got the prettiest sunset and I’m sooo happy my beach sessions are starting again since it’s finally warming up and I’m back at my happy spot!! And check out the very last photo for a double exposure I got in camera!!
Would you believe me if I told you my kids took these photos?! I decided to actually shower and get ready on Friday and my backdrop was already out and ready from some photos I did earlier in the day so I figured why not?! It was time for a more relaxed headshot since I normally show up in jeans to sessions anyways! Reason why I’m sitting in all of them?! Because like I said, my kids were taking them and if I stood up, my head was getting cut off ! I don’t know about you but I think my kids may be onto something…
Family sessions are not meant to be perfect; rather, they are intended to capture the authenticity and beauty of real life and your family. Embracing imperfections allows for genuine moments to shine through, showcasing the true essence of individuals and relationships. As a photographer, I encourage spontaneity, laughter, and even the occasional mishap, knowing that these elements add depth and character to the final images. By letting go of the pursuit of perfection, we open ourselves up to serendipitous moments and unexpected beauty, resulting in photographs that are rich with emotion and authenticity. So, let’s embrace the imperfections, laugh at the mishaps, and celebrate the beauty of life as it unfolds before us
Ever wonder what my number one concern is from parents?? They tell me that they don’t think their kids will make it for a full session and won’t stay happy for that long! Well guess what?! That’s why you NEEEEEED a full session!!
I never expect kids to act 100% perfect, trust me, I have three young kids myself so I get it! But the beauty in a full session is that they don’t HAVE to be perfect! We have the time to give them a break if they need it, we have the time for them to warm up to me and being in front of the camera, and we have the time to get every and any shot you want!
And if you have ever done a session with me, you know it’s not a bunch standing around and smiling at the camera (do not worry..I do get those too), but it’s a lot of movement and playing for your little ones on the go! I can barely stand still so I don’t expect kids to!
I also love to embrace motion blur in my photography which authentically captures the essence of parenthood: the joy, the challenges, and the fleeting moments that define your journey together as a family. In those blurred images, we find beauty in the imperfections, a reminder that amidst life’s chaos, there is a profound and enduring love that binds your family together!
This session was from my in which we thought it was going to get rained out but decided to go for it anyways and I’m sooo happy we did!! Interested in my next retreat? Make sure to send me a DM and I can get you added to my list :)
My goal this year is to capture more double exposures because there is something so beautiful about two exposures becoming one and it not only evokes emotion, but it also ignites the imagination! What do you think? You like an occasional double exposure??
For our second beach session for the , we were able to capture not just a growing belly and windswept hair, but the sheer magic of love and connection!
With a tender touch, dad lovingly tucked a stray lock of hair behind mom’s ear, his gaze filled with adoration and tenderness and we were able to capture it all! Something I preach at my retreats is to sometimes just step back and observe as the magic unfolds and that’s exactly what happened!
Photographing all of parenthood, even the meltdowns and tears, is a testament to the raw, unfiltered reality of raising tiny humans. It’s in those moments of chaos and vulnerability that the true essence of parenthood shines brightest. As a photographer, I strive to capture not just the smiles and milestones, but the messy, imperfect beauty of everyday life. From the exasperated sighs of a parent trying to calm a tantrum to the tear-stained cheeks of a child seeking comfort, each photograph tells a story of resilience, love, and unwavering dedication. These fleeting moments of struggle and triumph may not always be easy to capture, but they are the ones that resonate most deeply, serving as a reminder that parenthood is a journey filled with highs and lows, laughter and tears, but ultimately boundless love
The first session of the Perfectly Imperfect Retreat kicked off with a bang as we dove headfirst into a lifestyle newborn session for this new family of five! Against a backdrop of wallpaper, charm and warm sunlight filtering through the windows, we embraced the delightful chaos of family life, capturing the moments of sibling love and parental tenderness! We captured the messy, imperfect beauty of real-life connections, reveling in the joy of fleeting moments that will be cherished for a lifetime!
And if you did not see in my stories or follow along with me at , I was able to design this nursery from beginning to end and installed the wallpaper and picture frame molding and hung all the frames, shelves and curtains and loved every second of it!!
Alright Instagram friends!! My retreat is this weekend and the forecast is not looking great so I guess all of my rain dancing has not been working so can you pleasssse pray for the rain to stay away!! At this point I do not even mind if it’s cloudy but just want the rain to stay away!! And then also…I am needing a Sunday morning backup family in case our Saturday session gets rained out and looking for a family for our downtown Charleston session! I am wanting a family with 3-4 kids ranging in age and with a mix of boys and girls!! If that sounds like you, please send me over a message or comment down below if you know someone!! Thank youuuuuu!
Ever wonder how to keep little kids happy during sessions without tears?! Movement and FUN!!
We are constantly moving and playing games in alllll of my sessions and that helps 1. So kids don’t get bored and 2. Helps give such a variety to my galleries!
Would you believe me if I told you we did alllll these photos in a total of 13 minutes?!
One thing I will never get tired of photographing is baby feet and fun light!! One of the different things I am doing during this is talking more about newborn sessions and even added an add on session where we will be photographing a newborn session together and my oh my is it going to be good!!
Ahhh we are ONE WEEK away from my and I cannot believe it!! One of the main things we will be discussing and going over is posing and how to pose with chaos because let’s be honest…what’s a family session without a little chaos?! And if you have ever done a session with me you know that I bring the chaos to the session (on purpose) and am allllll about it!!
I know, I know! This is the absolute most horrible time to post photos but I could not help myself….look at this session!! It’s always such an honor to take another photographers family photos and after being virtual friends for years, tonight and I finally got to meet in person and although the weather was windy and gross and no sun, we made the best of it and had fun!!
Ahhh this warmer weather is teasing me and trying to let me know that it’s almost beach session weather season!! There is no denying that I LOVE a good beach session where I can truly photograph your family in a stress free environment where the kids can play and fall in the sand and everyone still has smiles on their faces!! If you haven’t booked a beach session yet, what’s holding you back?? I promise you won’t regret it!!
I drove up to Raleigh for the day on Friday for this sweet newborn session, another newborn session and then a maternity session and as I was driving home Friday night, I realized they were all past couples of mine and I photographed each of their weddings! What a special job I have to photograph people in the most memorable moments of their lives and to know that I am creating the art that they will look back on for forever! What a job…
