"Obstetric violence culture directs women and birthing people to be responsible for preventing their own assaults, adjusting their own expectations and behavior, to advocate for themselves even while vulnerable in labor. It frames abuse as inevitable; providers as powerless not to abuse; and the maternity care system as not responsible for protecting patients. Obstetric violence culture demeans patients and providers, and patients and providers should speak out about obstetric violence culture."

"Interpretation of EFM readings is an art, not a science. When given the same set of readings one doctor may opt for an immediate cesarean, while another may recommend less invasive interventions, such as position changes or IV fluids and take a "wait and see" approach. So...why is continuous electronic fetal monitoring still the "gold-standard" in most hospitals?"
Myth Monday: Electronic Fetal Monitoring :: Brilliant Beginnings Birth Services Many of the procedures and interventions that have become a routine part of obstetrical care in America are not supported by evidence. My Story
Welcome! My name is Megan, and I am a professional birth doula and child birth educator, serving families in the Omaha Metro Area.
I am a military spouse and mother to two beautiful girls, Aria (2013) and Elise (2017). I was first introduced to birth while employed as an OB/GYN's assistant, where I gained valuable knowledge about the medical model of care during pregnancy and labor. My passion for the natural birth process began when I was pregnant with my first child in 2012. My birth experiences, pregnancy and breastfeeding knowledge (4+ years) have allowed me to provide informal support to friends and family regarding fertility, pregnancy, miscarriage, labor, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum support for the past 5 years. I received my doula training through toLabor in March, 2018, and became a child birth educator in May, 2018.
I believe every person deserves a doula, for every birth. As a professional doula, I provide evidence based information and resources to help families make informed decisions during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. I offer non-judgmental support and advocacy throughout the pregnancy year so that you and your baby can have a brilliant beginning!
