HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT: Anacostia art space Project Create hosts DC street photography collective, DCSPC

Opens: January 20, 2023 • 6 PM

Closing party and open call awards: February 18

2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SE, Washington, D.C.

HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT: THE AUDACIOUS ART OF STREET PHOTOGRAPHY presents a retrospective of the DC Street Photography Collective’s (www.thedcspc.com) eight award-winning photographers, well known locally and internationally for their sharp-eyed documentation of the city and their community events at Slash Run, the DC Public Library, and the annual Focus on the Story festival, featuring brutally honest “photo slam” critiques and insightful presentations from visiting and local lecturers. DCSPC's 2020 photo book, Bad Day, sold out in a week.

Catching the unseen moments and iconic scenes of everyday life, street photography is an incredibly democratic art form—anyone with a camera can participate in the genre, now firmly recognized as a fine art. However, perfecting one's approach to the genre is a lifetime’s work.

DCSPC supports local photographers' development with photo walks and weekly contests, featuring winners on social media ( on Instagram).

The winter retrospective continues the tradition of community involvement with a schedule of critiques and talks by DCSPC members and area notables during the month-long exhibition.

DCSPC also believes that art and parties belong together, so expect good tunes, drinks and snacks, and presentations by prominent photographers. And keep an eye out for the images around you, hiding in plain sight.

The show, “Hiding in Plain Sight,” will open at 6:00 PM on January 20, 2023 at the Project Create Art Center at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SE. The show runs to February 18 when there will be a closing event. (Anacostia Metro and free parking at the event space)
