Did you know that GIA recently added the “Hanadama” quality designation to GIA Cultured Pearl Classification Reports? In order to receive the 'Hanadama' comment, cultured akoya pearls must display the following GIA Pearl Value Factors classification ranges: round to near-round shape, white body-color (with or without overtone), excellent luster, clean to lightly spotted surface, excellent to very good matching, and sufficient nacre thickness and quality. This designation indicates that the described pearls are of the highest quality.

Jennifer Koche, founder and designer of Storrow Fine Jewelry, creates charms that are both colorful and have a cross-cultural heirloom appeal. This comes from Koche’s prior experience as a jewelry buyer for luxury retailers, where she would peruse antique fairs and stores around the world in search of special heirloom pieces.
“Color is a huge part of Storrow’s identity, and I love seeing how customers mix unexpected color combos to create unique and whimsical pairings,” Koche says. “All my charms are designed to play off one another, using complementary color stories through a range of palettes without it feeling too ‘matchy-matchy.’ This is all in an effort for the pieces to seem as if they’ve been collected over time. What makes each piece personal is the distinctive color combos and how someone can mix them into their personal collection.”

The word "tiara" is Persian in origin for a semi-circular, peaked headdress worn by Persian kings. The ancient Greek name "diadem” describes an ornament that was worn across the brow, although today, these terms are sometimes used synonymously. Ancient Egyptians and Romans also wore elaborate headdresses. Tiaras and diadems experienced a revival during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries when women often wore them on formal occasions.
These three fabulous tiaras once belonged to the Duchess of Roxburghe. Made in the late 1800s, the tiara on the left features 20 pear-shaped diamond pendants surrounded by rose and cushion-cut diamonds. The tiara in the center is set with rubies and diamonds in a foliage motif. The newest tiara is on the right. It was made in the Art Deco style in the 1930s by Cartier. Which of these is your favorite?
