From the heart.
Like education, design is an opportunity. Be it through art, science, math, or music, an education gives us a chance to apply what we know to better the world around us in meaningful ways. Likewise, through enhanced form, function, and engagement, good design is also devoted to making our experience in the world better. Katy Lucas gets it.
As a senior interior designer at GMC, she’s been involved in developing K-12 educational facilities for nearly 20 years. She shares the importance of maximizing the impact of educational spaces in any and every way possible.

Hot dam! 🦫
While braving the heat out in the field this week, our Environmental team stumbled upon an active beaver dam on a property they were assessing.
GMC is currently completing a natural resource survey, including a wetland delineation and hydrologic determination, for the soon-to-be Old Parksville Road Wastewater Treatment Plant project. Additionally, a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment is being conducted to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions at the property, located in Oconee, Tennessee.
Previously a historic minnow aquaculture farm, the team was tasked with finding out which of ponds are currently acting as wetlands and which are not.
This is a joint project between Ocoee Utility District and EnPower Solutions, with OHM Advisors (Orchard, Hiltz & McCliment, Inc.) as the engineers. OUD is working out how to utilize the non-wetland historic ponds as settling ponds for a proposed wastewater treatment plant in the future, with potential for solar power to be used on site as well.

Teamwork makes the dream work!
Behind the scenes, airport boards, industrial development authorities, architects, engineers and design teams all collaborate to make a vision come to life. What they create has lasting effect on every community it touches through its economic and social advancements for the area.
Like the railroads that brought economic prosperity to the towns they visited, airports have had the same effect. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) estimates airport development to reach more than $62 billion in the next four years, with small and medium hubs predicted to represent the fastest part of that infrastructure growth.
What occurs within the boundaries of an airport reaches much beyond its property to impact both land development and residents. With the right partners, the right plan, and right approach, managers and owners of these vital components to the nation’s air traffic ecosystem can ensure their communities thrive for the long-term by securing the future of their airport’s operations.
