Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Administration (REA). Its purpose was to act as a loan agency to cooperatives in an effort to provide electricity to rural America.

Attention: Tombigbee Communications will be performing a necessary maintenance tonight and into tomorrow morning. Please see the attached picture where a squirrel chewed through a major transport fiber causing outages in Winfield around the 129 area on Sunday. Customers in this area could see impacts to their service for approximately 3-4 hours throughout the entirety of the maintenance which includes fixing the cut arounds we put in place on Sunday to restore service. We appreciate your patience as we work to make this repair. Thank you!

Due to excessive and abnormal DDoS attacks starting Saturday around 12 PM and continuing until 12 PM today, we experienced significant congestion within our network and across our internet uplinks. Although DDoS attacks are common,and we have robust equipment in place to prevent these attacks from affecting our customers, this particular incident was unusually severe. Work on a resolution began Sunday morning after collecting more data on the issue. After thorough analysis and effort, a fix was successfully implemented this morning, mitigating the problem and alleviating the saturated internet path. We apologize for this inconvenience. Please know- the team at Tombigbee Communications is continuously looking toward ways to improve your experience. Thank you!

Thank you for reporting your issues throughout the weekend. Our entire team has been engaged since midday Saturday to determine the issue and work toward a resolution. Freedom FIBER Tombigbee Communications offers freedom FIBER, a blazing fast fiber to the home internet service

Today, Tombigbee Communications was honored to be awarded approximately $2.7 million grant dollars from the Alabama Capital Projects Fund (CPF) administered through Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). These grant dollars will help us construct an estimated 155 miles of fiber and connect over 1,500 new services in Winston County. Members of Tombigbee’s team were in attendance with Governor Kay Ivey, Director Kenneth Boswell, Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter and Pro Tem Greg Reed at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 27th. We are beyond excited to bring freedom FIBER to more of you waiting on us in Winston County. It was a great day of celebration to see the continued growth of broadband availability through the state of Alabama! We've come a long way in six years, and we're determined to finish the job.

We will be performing two different maintenances beginning at midnight tonight. One will be out of our Vernon cabinet and will impact customers along County Rd 9, Blooming Grove Rd and Fellowship Rd toward Old Hwy 18 in Vernon. The second maintenance will impact customers out of the Hamilton cabinet in Detroit on County Rd 13. Both are to replace/repair transport fiber. This will impact your service if you are located in these areas. Our crews will work to get these necessary improvements completed as quickly as they can to get your freedom FIBER back up and running as normal. Heads up! All of our customers on the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) should have received a letter or an email from us in the last couple of weeks letting you know that the government funded program is set to end as of April 2024 at this time. Today is the last day for new customers to apply for the ACP on www.getinternet.gov. After today, they will no longer accept any new applications. Thank you!

It was an honor to be in attendance as Governor Kay Ivey made a milestone announcement in her hometown of Camden this morning. We are THRILLED to announce we have been awarded $757,479 from the Alabama Anchor Institution Middle Mile Grant administered through ADECA Alabama Department of Economic And Community Affairs. This grant will allow us to build a middle mile network to connect 22 anchor institutions in Winston County. We are proud to serve our local communities, and this middle mile grant will allow us to continue our mission. We are incredibly thankful for our many partners, elected officials and our customers. Today is a good day for all of Alabama!
