Dear aLLL,

Although La Leche League was originally scheduled to meet this coming Friday, July 19, there was some confusion in scheduling, and we are in the Friday morning slot at the USO Cottage for NEXT Friday, July 26 at 10:00 - 11:30.

This will be meeting #3 in the series, focusing on preventing and overcoming breastfeeding difficulties. Even if all is going well, and I certainly hope it is, please do come. Our meetings aren't just "classes", but rather a time for breastfeeding moms to gather to support each other.

So, please write in LLL on your calendar. Bring your questions, bring your baby, and if you'd like to bring something delicious and nutritious to share, that would be much appreciated.

TiLLL next week then!

Carol Hunter, accredited La Leche League Leader

For all those I met at the Baby Fair last month, I apologize I can't send the promised reminder e-mail. I've got a tech problem & am extremely tech-challenged.

I had a great time at the ACS Baby Fair today.

It's short notice for all the moms I met there, but, our monthly meeting for April is tomorrow (Friday, April 19) at 10:00 at the Hainerberg USO Cottage.

If you have a LLLibrary book out, please remember to bring it back so it's available for others to enjoy.

LLLooking forward to seeing you there. (There are a lot of lactation cookies leftover from the Baby Fair.)

Dear aLLL,

I hope you are all off to a great start in the New Year. We resume our breastfeeding support meetings this Friday.

Hainerberg USO Cottage
Friday, February 16
10:00 - 11:30

This will be a combination of meetings #1 and #2 in the series, concentrating on why breastfeeding is so awesome, and getting off to the best start with breastfeeding.

This is the perfect meeting to invite your pregnant friends to attend. It's important for more experienced moms to attend, too, since a new mother might need to hear what you have to say.

The LLLending LLLibrary is available. You may check out a book for a month & bring it back at the next meeting. If you have a book out, please be certain to return it so others may enjoy it, too.

If you would like to bring a nutritious snack to share, this would be very welcome.

LLLooking forward to seeing you all this Friday.

If you have breastfeeding questions between meetings, please feel free to contact me at
[email protected] or phone or message me at home or on my mobile phone.

Dear aLLL,

Here is your monthly reminder and invitation to the La Leche League Wiesbaden meetings, on Friday, November 17, at the Hainerberg USO Cottage.

This is meeting #3 in the series, which focuses on Avoiding and Overcoming Breastfeeding Difficulties.

Breastfeeding families are the best testimony to breastfeeding. It's important for experiences moms to attend, because expectant and newer moms can benefit from seeing you breastfeed and interact with your baby, and it might happen somebody's got a question about a situation you've experienced. Yours might just be the voice a newer mom needs to hear.

The meeting, is Friday at 10:00 to about 11:30.

Of course, all questions for all stages of your breastfeeding relationship are weLLLcome. Please don't go away with your questions unanswered.

If you would like to bring something delicious and nutritious to share, that would be very helpful.

And, on that subject, the December meeting (Dec. 15) will focus on Family Nutrition. This is my favorite meeting of the year because we get to eat sweets at the meeting. Here's the challenge: Make one of your family's favorite holiday treats, changing one thing about the recipe to improve its nutritional value. Bring a plate to the meeting, and tell us what you did. You might try substituting some (or all) of the flour for whole grain, cut the sugar, add seeds or nuts, use a non-dairy milk, add brewer's yeast, etc.

Hope to see you there.

Queen Elizabeth has passed away aged 96, not just a monarch, but also a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
・・・
Did you know the Queen was a breastfeeding trailblazer in the Royal Family, and paved the way for Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge?

According to royal historian Amy Licence, royal mothers traditionally did not breastfeed their babies – the job was usually given to someone else. But this all changed when the Queen welcomed Prince Charles into the world over 73 years ago.

(Image: mirrorpix)

Queen Elizabeth after her fourth Homebirth

Her Majesty was the first royal woman to have her husband accompany her at childbirth when she welcomed her fourth child Prince Edward with Prince Philip present.

"The Queen, by then aged 37, had asked him to be there; she'd been keenly reading women's magazines that stressed the importance of involving fathers in childbirth and had become fascinated by the idea. Thus Philip became the first royal father in modern history to witness the birth of his child.”
….
Like her mother, the Queen gave birth to her first child, Prince Charles, at home via caesarean, after a 30 hour labor, but went on to have three VBACs although with scopolamine.

Eventually Charles was born by a Caesarean section in a music room in Buckingham Palace which had been converted into a theatre. She was attended by Obstetricians Sir William Gilliatt and Sir John Peel, and also midwife Helen Rowe, who was thought to be present for all the births. Caesarean sections were also less common in the general public at that time; in the 1950s only around 3% were caesarean section. It would have been of some concern that the Queen required one.

The midwife Helen Rowe was known to be present as letters written to her by the Queen were discovered after her death. There is an irony in this as, in 1970, Sir John Peel, the queen’s obstetrician, was lead author of the report “Domiciliary midwifery and maternity bed needs”, which recommended 100% of births should be in a hospital.

There have been considerable changes that have taken place in maternity services since the births of the Queen’s children. The accessibility of research and information is only one thing! The Queen, in all her experiences as a woman and mother in the role, has paved the way for royal births to be different and opened the door for many of her subjects to challenge the status quo at the time. The importance of looking back in history to see how we have got to where we are should not be overlooked and I challenge others to investigate history of our profession over the past 70 years.

Being a mother is really hard. It's full time and not just office hours. It's round the clock work. Breastfeeding helps you rest while you are caring for your child but it's still your responsibility and your time that is being invested in the job.

I'd not have missed out on those precious years of breastfeeding for the world. It was time well invested for the health and security of my children's future. I want other mothers to be encouraged to believe in the power they have to make breastfeeding work and the financial support to invest the precious time needed to breastfeed. I know many don't.

It's never easy. Either you have to work to eat or you have to abandon prospects. You lose something either way.

Being a woman is never easy. We are judged whatever we do. Perhaps one day the world will respect the true value of motherhood and support us all to get the most from our roles.

Happy Breastfeeding Week!

03/08/2022

When I was pregnant for the first time, I heard a mother recommend we get the hang of breastfeeding lying down asap in order to get the maximum amount of rest possible with a new baby. Of all the advice I've heard on breastfeeding this is undoubtedly the best.

After a frightening separation immediately following my baby's birth, I struggled to breastfeed him. I often ended up lying down with him, exhausted, and at a loss how to encourage him to latch on. He seemed to fight with my breast, as though he were trying to get it out of his way rather than into his mouth. And it was lying down, coiled around him, my lower arm under my pillow, knees bent with his feet resting on my thigh, half drowsing in and out of sleep, that he first managed to latch on well and breastfeed properly.

Throughout time and all over the world, mothers have been discovering this pearl of mother wisdom for themselves.

Dear aLLL,

Here is your reminder and invitation for our meeting this Friday, July 15, at 10:00. We'll be LLLive & Onsite at the Hainerberg USO Cottage!

For those who are able to get through the gate, this is very exciting news. For those who aren't able to get through the gate, please be patient. I am working to establish another timeslot for an onLLLine meeting so all of our international and non-military mommies can still attend online. Unfortunately, I am tech-challenged, so I'll need a bit of time to figure this out. I'll let you know when I know more about this. Meantime, if you have breastfeeding questions, you can reach me by e-mail or phone.

This is meeting # 3 in the series, on Avoiding and Overcoming Breastfeeding Difficulties. Remember, all questions are welcome, so, no matter where you are in your breastfeeding relationship, please join us and bring your questions.

And, for those a little farther along in their breastfeeding relationship, remember, it isn't just about coming to ask questions. The voice a new mother needs to hear might just be yours.

Like all LLL meetings, we do not record anything except the number of mothers who attend. To protect the privacy of those who attend, what's said in the group stays within the group.

Please DO spread the word. Forward this e-mail to your pregnant and breastfeeding friends. Talk it up in the various Facebook forums.

I LLLook forward to getting together with as many of you who can attend LLLive & Onsite -- on Friday.

Dear aLLL,

Here is your reminder and invitation for our onLLLine meeting this Friday, June 17, at 10:00.

This will be our last onLLLine meeting in this timeslot because we are going back to meeting onsite at the Hainerberg USO Cottage.
I will be working to establish another timeslot for an onLLLine meeting so all of our international and non-military mommies can still attend online. I'll let you know when I know more about this.

We all have to register to be able to attend. If you follow this link, you can register and then receive the meeting link and the passcode. (If you've attended the onLLLine meetings in the past, it should remember you.)
https://bit.ly/3ypJpLs (Note: When you register, the screen says 09:30. This is approximately when the Zoom room opens, but, the meeting begins at 10:00.)

This is meeting #2 in the series, on getting off to the best start with breastfeeding. This will focus on the early days and weeks of the breastfeeding relationship. This is always a good meeting to invite your pregnant friends to join in. Of course, all questions are welcome, so, no matter where you are in your breastfeeding relationship, please join us and bring your questions.

Please DO spread the word. Forward this e-mail to your pregnant and breastfeeding friends. Talk it up in the various Facebook forums. Something good about this way of getting together is that we can offer group support to mothers outside the military community.

Our page is: LLLWiesbaden

It is an informational page. When we find breastfeeding information or encouragement in the internet, we post it here, gathering it all into one place for you to find it easily. This is a public page and is not where to ask your breastfeeding questions.

I LLLook forward to getting together with you all on Friday.
