Velo Orange

Velo Orange

The official Velo Orange FB. Purveyor of timeless frames, components, and accessories. Since 2006.

Most cyclists don't race, yet they ride uncomfortable racing bikes and try to go too fast and so miss much of the world around them. Our emphasis is on a more relaxed and comfortable style of riding, and on refined bikes that are comfortable on a century ride, an inn-to-inn tour, or even on a ramble down your favorite dirt road.

It’s always such a pleasure to see our components on the best industry movers and shakers! Beija knocked it out of the park with her newest build, and we’re psyched to have so many of our components front and center. With a reserved Beija racing green, our polished silver bits and bobs bring out the class on what is undoubtedly one of the coolest flat bar builds we’ve seen in a long time. Complete with 650b Voyager wheels, a 1x crank, stem, seat post, and Granola bars, this is a dream commuter, bike packer, do it all if I’ve ever seen one.

Beija’s also a generally fantastic follow, so if you’ve been living under a rock— get to it.

Thanks Beija!

That’s it from our .bike crew here in Portland! It was such a jam packed, fun, fulfilling three days of geeking out on bikes, seeing friends old and new, and meeting all of you! Everyone who came to the booth was so lovely, it reminded us of how lucky we are to have such a cool audience.

Of course, none of this happens without our team! Be it the fellas you see here, the folks back at HQ, or all the individuals that help us across the world— we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you. We’ll have more .bike content as the week rolls on, but for now, from Derek, Ammon, Clint, Igor, and Nic— we’ll see ya out there.

Our good friends at Off Course Bike Shop in Melbourne, Australia did a phenomenal job representing Velo Orange at this past MADE Australia. Not only did they have our parts on display, but they built up two bikes dressed from fork end to rear dropout in VO. The first of the pair is this stunning, 90s Sh**un Trail Breaker dubbed "Klunkerella". And before we jump in, a thank you to John Watson from The Radavist for taking terrific photos!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: 80s and 90s ATBs make fantastic platforms upon which to build some of the most durable, fun, and practical bikes. They live at the intersection of Utility Blvd and Unique Ave with no two looking the same. They not only embody the fashion of the time, but also transcend modern technologies to create something that reveals a rider's own soul. Needless to say, they rule.

Rack Packing: A Trendy Term for Timeless Touring

In the world of cycling, it's amazing how something old can be repackaged, sprinkled with a dash of modern marketing magic, and presented as the latest and greatest innovation. Enter "rack packing"—a term that's making some waves in the cycling community.

Despite the marketing spin, the concept remains the same: attach a rack, hang panniers, and hit the road. Let's appreciate the timeless tradition of bicycle touring and the gear that has carried us through countless adventures.

I am a self-proclaimed petrol-head. I have been into cars and the automotive scene for the majority of my life. *Swipe through all of the pics for the admin reveal from '96*

Well, I was absolutely over the moon when Mark from one of my favorite Youtube channels, .pl , was interested in getting a new bike. They build cars for drifting with Japanese street style and while I don't have any current plans on getting sideways, their authentic builds, positive attitudes, and fun progress videos make for such a great time.

Mark was looking for a bike that he could ride comfortably to the garage, around town, to the skatepark, and just get away from cars and sanding for a bit. Together, we settled on a Polyvalent Diamond frame, DT Swiss 650b wheels, flat bars, and Sram drivetrain. The rest was up to us! Surprise me, he said. "Whatever it is, I know it'll be great."

Hop over to the blog to read the whole article and be sure not to miss the comprehensive build list.

Here's a quick glimpse of their latest entry:

Day 1: Arequipa to Zona de Neblina Embarking from Arequipa's bustling streets, we started on a journey into the misty realms of the Zona de Neblina, where we set up camp amidst the tranquility of the forest.

Day 2: Zona de Neblina to Santa Lucia de Salinas With Volcan Misti as our backdrop, we continued our ascent, braving thunderstorms and encountering flamingos at Laguna de Salinas before finding refuge under a straw roof as darkness descended.

Day 3: Santa Lucia de Salinas to Yalagua Navigating through diverse terrain, we crossed paths with Claudio, bypassed herds of vicuñas, and descended into the breathtaking landscapes of Yalagua, welcomed by the warmth of its inhabitants.

Day 4: Yalagua to Ichuña Amidst encounters with remarkable locals, including the resilient Julia and her family, we savored moments of connection over prickly pears before continuing our journey.

Day 5: Ichuña to Juncal Experiencing the highs and lows of our expedition, we confronted physical and mental exhaustion, finding solace in each other's company amidst the backdrop of the Peruvian wilderness.

Day 6: Juncal to Chucuito Despite challenges along the way, we pressed on, conquering high altitudes and evading packs of wild dogs as we ventured through picturesque landscapes towards our next destination.

Check out Darren's 1987 Raleigh Elkhorn he submitted for VO Voices! This is one really cool build. From Darren:

"This is my 1987 Raleigh Elkhorn. I received this bike as my high school graduation present from my parents. The bike has been through multiple moves and somehow I always kept it. This is the bike that sparked my excitement for cycling and I suppose that is why it was always a priority to keep, even when moving back and forth between Arizona and Oregon. Last year I finally set out to rebuild it. It was probably the nostalgia that motivated me initially, but what resulted was a truly fine riding wonderful bike. Velo Orange had the right parts to complete my ride. From the striking metallic braided cables to the Seine handlebars that gives it the perfect upright ride!"

Our Story

Our emphasis here at Velo Orange is on a more relaxed and comfortable style of riding - on refined bikes that are comfortable for a century ride, an inn-to-inn tour, or a ramble down your favorite dirt road.

So, why not put your camera, jacket, and wallet in your handlebar bag and go out for a whole day or weekend in the country? Stop at a nice inn and have lunch, chat with the local farmers, drop by an art studio, winery, or bakery. Or ride out to our showroom just outside of historic Annapolis, Maryland.

Happy riding!
