Batesland School
the Batesland original school was an outbuilding on one rancher's land.
Batlesland School serves Batesland, Wakpamni, Denby, Wounded Knee Village, and the rural eastern part of the county.
in 1922, the Batesland town was certified and dedicated. The new school was completed in 1903 and has undergone remodeling in 1960, 1966, 1979, 2001, and again recently. Batesland School is located on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and is part of the Oglala Lakota School District.

Students will come in at 11am and it will also be an early release at 1pm for teacher collaboration. Tuesday will be a regular day. There will be tutoring for Prek-3rd grade after school, and 8th grade will be selling snow cones for $1.50 at 3pm. Wednesday will a Regular day, tutoring for 4-8 grades, and parent night for girls basketball team. PAC will also have a special meeting at 5pm. Dinner will be served for all those attending the PAC meeting and parent night. Thursday will be a regular day.There will be tutoring for Prek-3rd grade after school, and 8th grade will be selling snow cones for $1.50 at 3pm. SCSD65-1: Good afternoon Batesland School parents, staff, and students. Due to a shortage of bus drivers the students that live in Wounded Knee, Manderson, Porcupine, Evergreen, and Sharps were dismissed at 2:45 p.m. today January 17th 2018.
SCSD65-1: Special PAC meeting will be January 24, 2018 at 5pm in cafeteria. Parents may ride the afternoon bus to school. Thank you.

At 5:00am, a school bus will leave from Batesland School. At 5:10am, the school bus will leave from Gordon Junction. At 5:30am the school bus will leave from Wounded Knee Sign. Our last stop for pick up will be at 5:45am from Sharps Corner. Students will get back around 7pm. Batesland principal, DrWendy Castañeda-Leal teaches violin after school to her students. She started playing the violin with Roberta Guaspari (later became “Opus 118 Harlem School of Music”) and also studied at Juilliard. Watch them play during the winter carnival after just 8 lessons. We are so proud of our students and the dedication they have made to learn the violin.
