Play is just the beginning

Bringing Books to Life! Build Early Literacy Skills by Acting Out Stories Did you know that pretend play helps to build early literacy? We were in Chicagoland yesterday providing professional development for a district interested in Leveling UP! their educational practice to support their neurodivergent learners.

This quote of Jac's set the stage... "Different things work better for supporting different brains" along with some of our other mantras 🙂

Always grateful and excited when people and organizations invest their PD time in learning about ND supportive educational practices (especially, when it is with us 🤓🤓).

Image description- gold and red slide background with - small portion of text from Jac's Neurodiverse poem in - Text reads
"Autistic people have different brains; that are different in their wiring.
And functioning in a same brain world is challenging and it's tiring.
The world is made for NT brains and made by them too.
The world was made by and for people with brains like you.
Too much of current practice aims to make different look the same.
But, I assure you different things work better for supporting different brains."
excerpted from NeurodiVERSE, January 2020

Will put the link to the youtube video of her initial recitation of it in the comments.

Good to know

Since learning about W-sitting, I always tell people (even strangers) about long term issues it can cause.

Most of us don't like the puzzle piece.
Quit using it.

And before you respond that your 6 year old child likes it, let me know how much education and exposure your 6 year old has had to the autistic community. Because my 6 year old only knows what she's exposed to, and I damn sure am not teaching her internalized hatred.
