“Eclipse” 8x10in, scratchboard, watercolor, 24k gold. Just varnished and for sale! Send me a dm over Instagram (not Facebook, I won’t see it) if interested.
The next incarnation of this owl is being made, and here he is in progress right now. If you’re interested in giving him a home, send me a message on Instagram, or email me. No messages on FB, please. I haven’t posted there in over 18 months, so I won’t see it.
“Fey Hare” 8x8in, scratchboard and watercolor.
Waiting around to make sure everything is dry so I can varnish but I just finally finished this. Took longer than normal, but whatever. “Fey Hare” 8x8in scratchboard + watercolor.
Eldritch cute angel bunny coming along, and still in progress. Layers of colors are being added and carved away. The final color will be more lavender than pink, and of course, more tight detail.
Second “layer” of carving and the application of fiberglass on the surface. As always, these things go through different “ugly” stages as I make them, and this is still incomplete. This dude is for sale if anyone is interested. Send a dm over Instagram (not Facebook) if you’re interested!
“Two Princes” 18x24in scratchboard + watercolor 24k gold. First image is a scan, and the next two are photos of what it looks like in real life (waiting for a dry day to varnish). For sale. Need to pay bills! If interested, DM me over Instagram or Twitter (not Facebook).
Color correcting/post processing “Two Princes”. For whatever reason, the blacks of scratchboard always scan really poorly. Before someone criticizes me, simply using adjustment layers doesn’t quite work (believe me, I’ve tried), and I’ve found that the best results come from manually re-adding the flat black areas before fixing up the rest of the piece. It’s grueling but it gets the best results. When I’m done with all the post processing afterwards, this will look pretty close to how it looks in real life, but right now, I still have a lot of fixing up to do on the scans.
“Two Princes” is finished. 18x24, scratchboard, watercolor, 24k gold. Keys for scale. In the process of scanning it this evening. This is the second time I’ve made a piece from this one particular blueprint. I’m pretty happy with it, even though it took a very long time!
Sh*tty pic as I decide if this is finished or not. I haven’t removed the tape or applied the varnish yet. Look how hot that 24k gold is!
Progress of “Two Princes”. 18x24in, scratchboard, watercolor, and eventually 24k gold. Not finished it yet obviously but if you are interested in owning it feel free to DM me (anywhere but Facebook, sorry)
Carving out the roses. Awhile left to go.
Progress on “Two Princes”. I am now starting to add color. Haven’t even gotten to the roses and the keys yet. I have to work from background to foreground with scratchboard, finishing 90% of each section before starting the next one.
Slightly short on rent for Nov. If anyone would like to own a scratchboard panel, DM on Instagram or on Twitter (not Facebook). I have a few things that were meant to be in a show but desperate times call for desperate measures. Pictured here is an in-progress panel and one finished available one. Don’t want google remembering how much I’m charging, but it’s cheaper than normal.
Slightly zoomed in crop of “Prince of a Thousand Enemies”, 9x12in scratchboard + watercolor + 24k gold
This is “Amber Crucible”. He is huge at 16x20in but with a big heavy frame that makes him 20x24in. I’m trying to raise money for end of life kitty care, and to pay my rent this month. Message me on Instagram (not fb) if you are interested in purchasing the original. It’s price is much reduced, but I’m not advertising how much reduced since google will remember how cheap I marked it.
Misremembered the size of the Cthulhu piece. This is actually 11x14in but I cropped it when I scanned it. Also, I got a message from someone who thought it was digital. Nope.
This is a baby Cthulhu. I made him. 12x12in scratchboard and watercolor.
Starting the second round of carving. If you look closely here, the lower raven head is more tightly rendered now. Once I clean up every feather like this, I’ll start adding color. And then, it gets carved out again. Since this is a bigger piece, this will take awhile.
Pardon the glare. This piece (the remake of “Alpha and Omega”, and now named “Two Princes”) is entering the ugly stage as I start carving out all the feathers with a needle. This is only the first stage of carving, and I will go over all these feathers 2/3 more times to clean them up and add color so they have depth.
Hey folks, having a sale to fill up my coffers from owing a lot of money for Rasputin’s death and needing to pay November rent. Right now, I’m remaking that “Alpha and Omega” piece, which you can see in this album (this rendition will be named “Two Princes”). It has no buyer as of yet, but the first version looked great, so I’m sure the second one will too. Head on over to Reddit to see what else is up for sale here: https://www.reddit.com/r/artstore/comments/yb51zp/traditional_scratchboard_artistmixed_media_person/ If interested, message me here on Instagram (not Facebook) or on Reddit. Thanks for looking!
Had to repair a damaged and scarred panel before beginning. This was supposed to have a pure black background this time around, but the panel was too damaged for that. Using that alcohol to pull the ink off the top surface and to make clouds like that “Demiurge” piece I made awhile back.
Giant blueprint transferred to giant board. Don’t forget, you’re here forever.
Rasputin’s last day.
Finished the new color sketches, so now I’m transferring the blueprint onto the panel. The first version of this was a red/amber dominant piece, but this one is planned to be blue/indigo, and larger. (18x24in panel instead of 16x20in)
This is how all my pieces start. This is a plain 18x24in scratchboard panel. This particular panel is damaged, but I have no other suitable panels to work with so I’ll have to work around the damage.
Can’t afford a vet visit, so I’ve started a gofundme for Rasputin, the big gay cat. https://gofund.me/e4ad7ee4
Redoing “Alpha and Omega” (new title TBH) on a larger panel. Tomorrow I’m enlarging the blueprint sketch so it fits on that big panel. I want to try out some new techniques and a new color palette. Also, the big gay cat Rasputin is ill, and I need to scrounge up enough cash for a vet visit. He’s losing weight and he’s listless. I’ll probably be posting a gofundme soonish if I need to for him. He’s old but he’s a good cat and I want him to be as comfortable as possible. Hit me up somewhere if you’re looking for art.
Finished this. This is a section of “Prince With a Thousand Enemies” and it hasn’t been varnished yet. It’ll be scanned and sealed later. This is a scratchboard + watercolor traditionally made piece. You can see the etching needle I used to make this on the bottom right hand side of the image.
Putting the hair on the hare, and almost to the point where I can finally start carving the moths and flowers. Still incomplete, but we’re getting there, kids. I put a filter on this so you can see the cut texture.
