Man! It was cold and windy last Friday!
•
Flying trusses in the wind isn’t ideal, but we got it done! With no “serious” injuries.
•
I’m pretty sure everybody dreams about having a space of their own! A man cave, or she-shed if you will.
•
This client wanted a home gym, with a future golf simulator, drinking fountain and a private bathroom. Some cool details went into this project!

Coil nailer or stick nailer?
•
•
That’s a lot of white! But some how, with all the black accents and dark floor… it works 👌🏽

Saturday’s Helper!
•
If you followed my stories yesterday, you knew this post was coming!
•
This is the transformation of our local Taylor Freeze! Taylor Freeze is one of the oldest family owned businesses in our community! The building has been around for many year, they do an excellent job at keeping thing clean and working with the space they’ve got… but man it was fun to put several more decades of use back into our Taylor Freeze!

All hammers are not created equal!
•
Did you know: that Boss Hammer’s pro series titanium hammer can be used to mark 90 degree square lines, find and mark angles etc? It even has a 13mm socket built in to change any skill saw blade!

This bathroom was a little outdated when we showed up. Demo day, we found all kinds of treasures, including a news paper from 1991.
•
Best part of this job, is walking away from a place, leaving it better than when you walked in.
•
The difference between a good job verses a great job in my opinion, whether if it’s tile work, trim work, painting, etc… Is CLEAN / KRISP lines!
•
Do you agree? Or how would you answer this question?
•
I did a post awhile back about “automatic” (drywall) taping tools, did you know there’s “serious-auto” taping tools too?
•
Commando set is what we use. Automatic taping tools are amazing and fast. But they’re complicated and hard to clean. Semi-auto tools can speed the process up from hand taping but are much easier to get the hang of and clean.
•
I love drywall, and everything drywall! What’s your opinion of drywall?
•
I designed the spec house we completed to be extremely practical and efficient. We made budget friendly design choices that utilized all spaces.
•
Here is the “mud room nook” off of the garage/laundry room that we were able to fit under the stair case.
•
My wife did all the interior designing, and did a incredible job!
•
Commercial bathroom remodel for our friends at Coca Cola!
•
Swipe for before and after (yes we moved the door too)
•
Drywall tape: all three of these are advertised and used as drywall tape. Each are different, and have their place.
•
Most drywallers will agree, that traditional paper tape is superior in most new construction applications. Mesh tape coupled with hot mud makes for a strong/fast patch. And the fiber tape in a lot of cases is a great blend of both! I like to use the fiber tape in scenarios where the wider width allows it to cover more of the effected area (always “old work” situations for us).
•
Do you higher the cheapest, most average or most expensive company typically?
•
I’ve done my fair share of hiring the cheap guy… and if you haven’t learned this for yourself, please take my word for it; I’ve hired a lot of companies to do a specific task… and I promise, the cheapest guy has ALWAYS been the most expensive. What I mean by that, is, to fix the cheap guys’ work, You then have to pay a better/more qualified (more expensive) company to fix or finish the job.

There use to be a wall, there to the left. Creating a tight foyer from the front door. The island also use to be a raised bar, we brought it down to countertop height. All new cabinets, counters, appliances, flooring, etc.

This kitchen is ready for guests!

Organized chaos!
•
A perfect snapshot of the job site… You can almost feel the fans blowing and hear the music playing 🎵🪜

•
There are many ways to frame a roof, most common in our area is to “fly in trusses” using a crane. We all love truss day! It’s fast moving, very satisfying and most of the time will get an adrenaline rush!
•
Also, I love the open space and amazing views out here!
•
Ever heard of a “tuxedo kitchen”?
•
Most common for our area, and for us is to paint prior to do baseboards in all carpeted rooms, paint and then lay flooring.
•
In this case there was no carpet in the entire house. As well as different supply chain issues. We opted to lay the flooring, install all trim, cover/protect the floor, and then paint.
•
Here we are using two products: X-Board and Floorshell. Unlike builders paper that bleeds through or tips easily… these two products lasted several weeks with no bleeding or tearing 👌🏼
•
Look carefully at the details in this shower 👌🏼
•
Clean, intensional and perfectly executed.
•
Have you ever seen a sprayer attachment like this!?
•
This is spray roller. Both spraying and rolling has a place. In most cases it’s best practice to spray and “back-roll” walls. Spraying applies paint fast and efficiently, it also creates a clean/sharp line at trim/ceiling lines. Back-rolling insures a perfectly even coverage and also leaves a unrecognizable texture that will be much easier to touch up or patch in the future.
•
This was our first time trying Titan’s spray roller. Which allowed one person to easily spray and back roll. We were pleased 👌🏼
•
Have you heard of fiberglass rebar?
•
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) is 7 times lighter than traditional steel. It is also corrosion resistant, where steel can be prone to rust and crack the concrete. FRP manufactures claim their products have two times longer structural life span than steel rebar. FRP also has a greater tensile strength than steel. And lastly, FRP is thermally and electrically non-conductive
•
What do you think?
•
Sure the final touches on the house is fun and rewarding; but there’s just something about this stage of a project.. building something from the ground up.
•
This stage should be one of the most important stages of the home building process! You can have the most beautiful home in the valley… but the dirt work and the foundation are not done right, none of that matters!
•
Is your porch lid (ceiling) drywall?
•
With fluctuating humidity levels, temperatures, etc. outdoor sheetrock with ALWAYS crack.
•
If you have drywall porch ceilings know that you will need to patch cracks consistently. If your considering what materials to use on a porch, consider something other than sheetrock.
•
What are some other materials that come to mind?
•
Ends tomorrow!
