Nourishing Flora

Led the first session of 5 for a group of amazing kiddos through the local Human Services Department today. Of course these are the only photos I remembered to take. Whoops!! We will use one of the senses each session as a means of connecting more with nature and ourselves.

Today’s session was touch and texture.

On the agenda was:
🪴touch scavenger hunt to find all the velvety, squishy, rough, bumpy, etc. things while working in teams
🪴mindfully visualizing walking through different paths as a way of calming and practicing deep breathing
🪴feeling the soil under our feet while tromping through the forest
🪴body scan to connect with how we feel and the impact the physical environment has on our bodies
🪴making seed balls to gift and plant later. A wonderful tactile experience

Personal therapeutic horticulture moment.

We have been renting this place that doesn’t feel like home. I can often dream of the next place and slip into a lack of contentment in the present. Last year I finally put some things in the ground for future me, if I happened to still be there. We are in this same place and I got to tell ya the joy I feel from things popping up is tremendous. It has shifted my perspective. One of the best little gifts I have given myself. Very therapeutic.🥰🌱

We have had a very busy winter and spring! Lots of plants to start and nature things to see. Both have brought beautiful opportunities for our clients to be grounded, practice breathing techniques, and learn to be present in the moment. Many more exciting things to come this summer!

Mullien. A beautiful native plant. “It’s like if a cactus and lettuce had a baby”- comments from a very intrigued client. He is equally excited to use this as toilet paper in the woods if the occasion should arise in the future.🤣
