It's another Monday and I don't know about you but I always feel like I need twice as much caffeine as normal on Mondays. One of my favorite things is when my hubby supports my caffeine addiction by making the coffee before I even wake up and then letting me have the last cup 😍 😅 Can you relate? What do you do to get through particularly hard Mondays?

For some, nausea can be one of the hardest parts of pregnancy. Also known as "morning sickness" (although for most it lasts all day - it's not just in the morning), pregnancy nausea is typically known to last only for the first trimester. However, for some people it can last the whole pregnancy... not fun!
It might seem counterintuitive but not letting yourself get hungry is actually a great trick to help reduce nausea during pregnancy. Now, you don't want to let yourself get too full either which is why snacking throughout the day is perfect! Make sure to eat snacks that you can stand. Don't try to eat foods that are currently grossing you out. Try to keep it bland and not too fragrant. Keep snacks in your purse, your desk, your nightstand, and anywhere else that you may be without food if you don't have a snack stash there. Lots of people like to keep saltine crackers with them everywhere they go. This is a great idea! My personal favorite during pregnancy was to make a really big orange Julius smoothie in the morning and sip it all throughout the day. It was one of the only things I could eat in my first trimester!
What are some tricks that you use(d) for pregnancy nausea??

There are some crazy things that can happen with your body during and after pregnancy. One of those crazy things is pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome...did you know that was a thing??
Pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome is a lot like normal carpal tunnel syndrome except that it typically goes away on it's own after pregnancy. Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when your median nerve is compressed at the wrist/palm of your hand. It can cause numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in the hands and fingers (typically all fingers except the pinky). Pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome is typically caused by pregnancy related swelling that compresses the median nerve. Typically it crops up in the 3rd trimester but pregnant people can start getting symptoms of it as early as the first trimester. Pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome can also present itself AFTER birth, during the postpartum period... because hormones!
If you are or know someone who i s struggling with postpartum carpal tunnel syndrome, here are some things that can help!
- Wrist braces - you can start by wearing them at night and if that doesn't help, wear them more frequently throughout the day. Wrist braces are beneficial because they hold your wrist joint in place and keep you from bending it and further compressing the median nerve.
- Massage - regular massage therapy is very beneficial for carpal tunnel syndrome because it can get stagnant blood moving and decrease swelling in the hands and wrists, taking pressure off of the carpal tunnel.
- Chiropractic work - chiropractic adjustments can help to align your body in a way that can help take pressure off your wrist and hands.
- Anti-inflammatory essential oils (we usually recommend Deep Blue Rub at Bloomeri). Deep Blue Rub and other anti-inflammatory essential oils can help to decrease swelling and inflammation in and around the wrist and take some pressure off your median nerve.
Have you experienced pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome? What are some things that helped you??

A pregnant person's round ligaments are one of the multiple ligaments of the uterus. You have 2 of them on either side of the uterus. Often, when someone is pregnant and their uterus starts to get heavier, the round ligaments can tighten and cause some pretty crazy pain! I've had some people tell me that their care providers told them there was nothing they could do about their round ligament pain. NOT. TRUE!
There are actually many things you can do to help relieve round ligament pain! One of the easiest ways is to wear a pregnancy support belt! Worn correctly, they can help support the weight of your growing belly and take some pressure off your round ligaments. Wearing a pregnancy support belt can also help with pregnancy related back pain. They are amazing and you can get some pretty good ones right on Amazon!

Do you ever get those excruciating and sudden leg cramps in the middle of the night? The ones where you just have to tough it out until it goes away? Aren't they awful?! Those leg cramps are really common during pregnancy and there are a number of reasons why someone might get them... fatigue, decreased blood flow to the legs, dehydration... One of the most common reason for those leg cramps during pregnancy, however, is a calcium and/or magnesium deficiency.
Did you know that most Americans are actually magnesium deficient? It's true! Magnesium is really important for your body to have and it's also really good for your muscles. Ever heard of an Epsom salt soak for sore muscles? Know why it works? Because Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate! Magnesium can be easily absorbed into the bloodstream when applied topically so an Epsom salt soak is perfect for giving your body that magnesium it needs. People rarely have time to take a daily bath though and you also may not absorb enough magnesium through Epsom salt soaks alone.
A great way to get the nutrients you need and stop those pesky leg cramps is by taking a calcium + magnesium supplement. Calcium and magnesium often come together in supplement form and you can get them at pretty much any health-food store. They also have magnesium oil and lotion that you can apply directly to your skin so your body will absorb it. I personally have some magnesium lotion that smells like vanilla cake! I applied it to my legs every night while I was pregnant and the nights that I forgot were the only nights I got the leg cramps. You can apply magnesium oil/lotion directly to your legs before you go to sleep at night. Magnesium also helps promote a good night's sleep so win win!
I'm definitely not an expert on the ins and outs of calcium and magnesium absorption, chemical reactions in the body, or any of that kind of stuff so make sure to ALWAYS check with your provider before adding a new supplement to your daily routine. But if they say it's okay, give it a try!

Any parent knows that establishing a good bedtime routine is super important. The more repetition during bedtime, the more baby will start to associate those things with bedtime, the easier it will be to get them to sleep! Using essential oils for bedtime is really beneficial because it helps incorporate ALL of baby's senses into their bedtime routine. When they start to smell the essential oil, they'll know that's the smell of bedtime and they will naturally start to wind down, relax, and get sleepy. Lavender is a great essential oil to use for bedtime! It's not only one of the most (if not THE most) sedating essential oils, it's also safe for infants!
Here are some ways to incorporate lavender into your bedtime routine:
😴 Put an essential oil diffuser in baby's room and diffuse lavender during bedtime
😴 rub a drop of lavender on your chest or your shirt, then snuggle baby so they can smell it while you rock them to sleep
😴 Put a drop or two of lavender on baby's bed sheet before putting them down in bed so they can smell it all night long
😴 Put a few drops of lavender into your favorite baby lotion and give them a little massage with it before bed (if you do this, make sture that the dilution of the lavender is at least 25% - so 1 drop to 4 teaspoons of lotion is the max you should use on infants).
Don't like lavender but still want to use essential oils in your baby's bedtime routine? Here are some alternative essential oils that also work great! Just make sure to use the proper dilutions for infants!
💛 Cedarwood
💛 Bergamot
💛 Roman Chamomile
💛 Ylang ylang
💛 Neroli

If you haven't already met her, meet Elizabeth! She is another one of our amazing therapists here at Bloomeri! She has been a licensed massage therapist since 2017.
She loves working with clients who are friendly, easygoing, and are serious about adding massage to their lifestyle. Elizabeth particularly loves it when she gets to feel the babies when giving a vitamin E oil belly rub. Her bodywork style is a mixture of many massage modalities. She likes to do a lot of specific work and blend it with long, relaxing strokes. She can get a lot of knots and tension out but still leave people feeling nice and relaxed. You will never get the same massage twice with Elizabeth. She is always changing something up whether its the music, routine, or how she works the low back, something is always different. She is 23 and currently lives in West Valley with her husband and 2 year old son. Elizabeth loves rock climbing, reading, knitting, and watching movies while cuddling up with a blanket. Something super interesting about her is that she learns musical instruments really quickly and can play a little bit of the guitar, ukulele, violin, kalimba, and piano!
If you've seen her before, tell us something you LOVE about Elizabeth in the comments! 👇👇👇
We love Elizabeth and love having her as a part of our Bloomeri team! If you haven't already received a session from her, DO. IT! She is amazing!

We are starting a series called "Pro Tips"! These are just little tips that we at Bloomeri have learned throughout our combined 15 years of experience, either through education, stories, experiences, or from other professionals. We hope you like it!
Pro tip number 1: Try papaya for heartburn during pregnancy. Many pregnant individuals experience heartburn during pregnancy. Personally, my pregnancy was the very first time I had ever experienced heartburn! I didn't know what to do until my midwife told me that the enzymes in papayas worked great for heartburn. She told me to take papaya enzymes and they really worked! They are just chewable tablets that you can get at any health food store. You can also just eat straight up papaya! Some antacids have ingredients in them that some people try to avoid during pregnancy so papaya is a great alternative to antacids! Just remember to always check with your prenatal healthcare provider before taking any supplements!
Are there other pregnancy heartburn remedies that you tried?? Tell us in the comments!

No. PTSD is not just something soldiers get. I am definitely not discounting what war veterans with PTSD have gone through... not at all. But there is a misconception out there that only those who have fought in active duty can get PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). This NOT true. Anyone who has gone through a traumatic event can develop PTSD. Labor and birth can be very traumatic for some when they don't have the proper support (and sometimes even when they DO have proper support).
Postpartum PTSD (P-PTSD) is very real for those who experience it. Many parents who go through it suffer from intrusive thoughts, flashbacks of the traumatic events, panic attacks, avoidance behaviors, nightmares, and detachment from their baby and other loved ones.
Even though P-PTSD is not as well known as some other postpartum mood disorders, ACOG estimates that anywhere from 3 to 16 percent of all birthing people experience it (it's not as rare as you may think). And that number is probably even higher considering that since many people don't know about it, they don't know that it needs to be treated. Scarily enough, many medical and mental health professionals (even some psychologists - yes!) do not know about/know how to properly treat P-PTSD.
If you think that you or someone you love might be experiencing P-PTSD, please know that it's fairly common and it is very treatable. You are not alone in this. Seek help from your maternal or mental health professional right away and know that there is a community of people who know what you are going through.
Also, here are some resources for more education about/help with P-PTSD

The Healing Group
I know there are a TON more so if you know of a good one that I didn't put on here, tag them in the comments!

Have you tried our Himalayan hot stones yet? If, you haven't you NEED to! They are heavenly. The stones are safe for use during pregnancy. They are not only warming to the muscles and feel AMAZING, they have detoxification properties as well and can help draw toxins out of your muscles. Himalayan salt for the win! Also, you do not have to purchase an upgrade to try them. We have recently added hot stone spot treatments as something that comes complimentary with every massage! To see a full list of everything that comes complimentary with our massages at Bloomeri, see our "Compliments" story highlight.
You can also purchase a full body Himalayan hot stone upgrade if you'd like the ultimate indulgence or your muscles feel like they need extra care.
A little bit about the stones, they are made out of Himalayan salt and shaped into stones. They are warmed with light that comes through a big Himalayan salt slab at the bottom of the bowl. Many people ask us how we clean them if they are made out of salt? Even though Himalayan salt is antimicrobial (meaning that germs can't thrive/live on it) we still take extra precautions and clean them after each use with a special water-free, mineral based, hospital-grade disinfectant cleaner.
They are also just SUPER pretty aren't they? We love our hot stones.
