Here at Copain Wines, we believe that transparency enhances everything we do. With sustainability as our guiding principle, we proudly stand at the forefront of modern transparent winemaking.
All of our estate vineyard properties are certified sustainable, and we take our commitment to the environment a step further through regenerative and organic farming practices, such as composting, grazing, and conservation tillage. These practices not only bolster biodiversity and improve soil health but also sequester carbon, casting a beneficial ripple across our community. With a focus on regenerative farming, including the use of cover crops and compost, we are dedicated to invigorating vine health and enriching the land's biodiversity.
Our commitment to minimal intervention wine requires fewer physical resources, such as new barrels. We use native yeast to provide continuity between holistically farmed fruit and hands-off winemaking.
Living up to our zero-waste philosophy, we take pride in the fact that 95% of our byproducts are recycled, or repurposed, helping to close the loop in our ecosystem.
Starting with the 2021 vintage, we've chosen to share each wine's journey through ingredient labels on every bottle, reinforcing our dedication to transparency, inviting you into a dialogue about our winemaking process, and advancing our mission of responsible winemaking.
Today we raise a glass to Earth Day! Here's to continuing our journey towards a sustainable future, one glass at a time.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 20th, and join us at Copain for our inaugural Transparent Winemaking Party!
With our 2021 Copain Estate Picpoul Blanc leading the charge, we're championing a new chapter of transparency by listing ingredients on our labels to deepen your understanding of our winemaking journey. Our goal? To spark real talk about the craft we're so passionate about and to showcase our pledge to absolute transparency in every bottle.
We're thrilled about this venture and are kicking it off with a party dedicated to learning, openness, and enjoyment. Your ticket offers a tasting flight of our transparently made wines, the ambiance of live music, and the finest bites from local culinary artisans.

How well do you know Associate Winemaker Quin Donahue?
Growing up in Napa, Quin admired people in the wine industry for their hard work and the fun they seemed to have. Working with your hands and drinking wine? He wondered, what's not to love? During his high school summers, Quin worked on a mobile bottling line, admiring the variety of wineries. When it came time to decide on his future, he chose to pursue his dream of becoming a winemaker. Quin studied Wine and Viticulture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a concentration in Enology.
Quin secured a cellar position at Cambria Winery and began "paying his dues." He spent a year at Cambria, mastering cellar and lab operations, before moving to Byron Winery to refine his Pinot Noir winemaking skills.
Though he cherished his time on the Central Coast, he felt the pull to return home. Back in Sonoma County, Quin moved into a large production facility in Geyserville. - “I think learning how to make wine at that scale is crucial; you learn things you wouldn’t learn at smaller facilities, and you learn things quickly. A position opened at Copain, and the chance to work with small lots of high-end Pinot Noir and learn a new style of winemaking seemed like a dream!” – Quin Donahue.
Now, Quin collaborates closely with Ryan Zepaltas, focusing on crafting premium lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah. He manages the day-to-day operations at the winery and still gets his hands dirty in the cellar. Quin oversees a couple of vineyards throughout the Sonoma Coast and collaborates with vineyard managers to nail the perfect picks during harvest. He is also responsible for crafting the Mendocino Rosé, sourced from the Yorkville Highlands.
In his leisure time, Quin enjoys spending time with his wife in San Francisco, snowboarding in winter, and honing his sourdough bread-making skills.
Experience the spectacular views of the Russian River Valley while relishing our site-specific Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
On this foggy February morning, we are excited to share the official inaugural release of our GSM blend with you! A GSM blend has been on our wish list for years, and we are thrilled to launch this one. It's a stunningly complex wine, with layers upon layers. This wine is sourced from Hawks Butte Vineyard in the Yorkville Highlands. On the nose, it presents wild and rustic aromas, followed by flavors of red vines, saltwater taffy, raspberry, blackberry, and strawberry. With fine-grained tannins and a dense palate, this wine is built to last for the next 10-15 years.
We're Excited to Share the Inaugural Release of Our GSM Blend With You!

Ryan's journey began in the beer-loving culture of Wisconsin, where wine was a distant concept. After college, he made a life-changing move to Sebastopol, CA, fueled by his passion for skateboarding. With many hours skating around CA, Ryan realized he needed to find a career.
That's when he stumbled upon a harvest job at La Crema, where he spent two formative years. In 2018, Ryan's dream came true when he was offered the position of Winemaker and General Manager at Copain.

With a stellar 94 points from both Audrey Frick and JebDunnuck.com, our 2021 Sealift Pinot Noir is an exceptional gem.
"A darker hue with a purple highlight, the 2021 Pinot Noir Sealift is noted with black raspberry preserve, violets, sweet cardamom, and delicate cedar. Harmonious on the palate, it has ultra-fine tannins, a silky texture, and medium to full body in its notes of ripe berries and wet stone. An attractive wine, it's drinking well now with a little air, and it will be wonderful to drink over the next 6-8 years" - Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com (July 2023)

Meet Sarah, our Skilled Cellar Worker! Sarah has been an invaluable part of the Copain team for 2 years. Originally from the Midwest, she adores the California outdoors and enjoys exploring with her partner and dog.
When we asked Sarah about her favorite varietal to make, she chose Pinot Noir (excellent choice!). She's especially thrilled about bringing home Sealift Pinot Noir or Brosseau Grenache for the holidays this year.
We're incredibly grateful for Sarah's exceptional contributions to our team. Cheers to Sarah!

Brosseau Chardonnay vintage 2023 in the making!
Pinot Gris 🍇 + Pinot Noir 🍇 = P2 ⚡️
We’ve strategically selected two vineyards in the Sonoma Coast AVA to create this wine. This coastal region gives us grapes that have bright, energetic fruit character along with vibrant acidity which in turn gives us a wine that is fresh and exciting. The Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard along the far reaches of the Sonoma Coast, contributing bright, tart Pinot Noir flavors to the mix. The Pinot Gris hails from a grower on the outskirts of Santa Rosa, who meticulously farms the fruit that adds verve.
Have you tasted our accidental masterpiece, P2? Let us know below. 🍷👇
It's the season of festive gatherings and outstanding wines. Which ones will you uncork? Let us know below!
“For years, I’ve dreamed of making a white blend that is highly aromatic, flavorful, and exciting. A wine that builds upon different varieties from different origins to become everything a Copain Wine should be—nuanced, balanced, and, most of all, delicious. Welcome to the first vintage of Daybreak.” -Winemaker Ryan Zepaltas

Hailing from the remote, western reaches of the Anderson Valley along Greenwood Ridge, the DuPratt Vineyard has some of the oldest vines and one of the coolest climates in the region.
Recently scoring 94 points from Audrey Frick and Jeb Dunnuck, "The 2021 Chardonnay DuPratt is more layered with ripe fruit and piney aromas, orange zest, chamomile, and yellow peach. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with pure, ripe fruit, a gorgeous mouthfeel, and a very long finish. Ripe and plentiful with saline and ripe golden fruits, it’s a showstopper, with great freshness and a mouthwatering finish. It's drinking well now and will drink well over the next 10 years" - Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (July 2023)

Recently rated 93 points from Wine Enthusiast, our 2020 Skycrest Vineyard Chardonnay is a vintage to remember.
“A vivid, deep-gold color-concurs with ripe, buttery aromas and sunny pineapple and mango flavors in this soft, smooth and deceptively light-bodied wine. While low-ish in alcohol, it is beautifully balanced by a rich, melted texture.” - Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast (August 2023)
Thank you to Jim Gordon and Wine Enthusiast!
