“I loved what I did,” Dr. Nissenbaum said. “Steve Krause knew I loved to drive, cardiology and educating the public on living a longer, healthier life. We have saved an estimated 1-to-3 lives a week on average and improved the health of many other people over the past 10 years with this approach.”

Quality takes time and is worth the wait – even a nearly three year wait! 🔬
While it would be easier, we simply cannot shut down an entire department to renovate it - particularly one as vital to patient care as the lab. That was the challenge our Lab and Construction teams faced when they began planning a much-needed department update in 2020. The result was the most complex renovation project we’ve undertaken in a decade.
The project included the installation of new, sophisticated equipment – which had to be installed before the older equipment could be shut off and removed - the modernization of all departments and spaces within the lab, and a molecular lab area and its equipment that was moved from leased space. We installed new infection prevention-approved flooring throughout the department and a walk-in cooler for efficient storage of supplies needing refrigeration.
The first hammer swung in October 2021. After 13 phases, the project was completed this month.
The outcome is exceptional. It has enhanced work flow and the work environment, contributing greatly to the efficiency and effectiveness of our hard-working Lab team, and provided all clinicians and our patients with lab results from state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
Congratulations and thank you to our Lab team members for their patience and commitment to quality while their work area was a bit more chaotic than usual for the past 33 months, and to construction team members for their skill and perseverance in delivering an outstanding final product! 💙

Get to know Blessing
The roots of Blessing Health System run deep through Quincy and the region. It all started nearly 150 years ago when a 19-room hospital, built on donations of land and money, opened to serve the poor. Its name was Blessing Hospital.
Fast forward to today. Blessing Health System is made up of several specialized entities that improve the health of communities on both sides of the river. They include the Quincy-based multi-specialty provider group Blessing Physician Services and the northeast Missouri-based multi-specialty provider group Hannibal Clinic. Together, 200 providers serve the needs of patients in Quincy and throughout the region.
In Pike County Illinois and its surrounding communities, Illini Community Hospital is a well known and respected health system member.
The system also includes Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as Denman Services, an important source of health care equipment and services for the region’s residents and providers.
