Why is Juneteenth called Freedom Day? Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the date on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news they were free. This was two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, one year after the Senate passed the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery, on April 18, 1864, and six months after it was passed by the House on January 31, 1865.

We are SO proud of our Olympic Athletes. This picture is from the Regional Competition in Springfield a few weeks ago and TWO very talented athletes won the opportunity to attend the State Special Olympics in Bloomington tomorrow and Saturday at ISU. Jeff, on the far left of the left picture, will be competing in 200M Walk on Saturday and Rick, in the right side picture in the blue shirt, will be participating tomorrow in the 100M walk. The opening ceremonies will be Friday at 8am. Again, we are so very proud of their individual efforts and for everyone's team efforts in cheering each other on. They are quite the Goodwill family. Thank you to our friends in the Danville area! Vermilion Advantage and Education Personnel Federal Credit Union partnered with us for our first "Spring Cleaning" Donation Drive! We collected several thousand pounds of donations so, many thanks to everyone who came out to make a donation.
Also, we would like to thank the Vermilion Advantage and ServPro for their Western themed member luncheon on the 22nd. If you look closely, John Wayne even made an appearance and yes, I was tossed in jail. And, of course, the Duke rescued me! Thank you again for two fun-filled days! A huge shout out to Daphne Hulse, Zero Waste Coordinator, at the University of Illinois in Champaign. We partnered with her team for the "2024 Dump & Run" to assist their community in cleaning out rooms, apartments, and homes in a reusable and sustainable way! We collected over 15,000 pounds of donations to be distributed to our Champaign, Savoy and Danville Goodwill Stores to help support our mission programs. THANK YOU TO THE FIGHTING ILLINI COMMUNITY! What is CARF? It's an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services, enhancing the lives of persons served. We are proud to say that Land of Lincoln Goodwill has recently received this 3-year accreditation. According to CARF CEO Brian Boon, "This achievement is an indication of this organization's dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the persons served."

Our Goodwill Family is so proud of our most recent 2024 HIgh School and College graduates!! Jacksonville HS grads - Jersey, Rodney, Isaiah and CamRon. Sacred Heart grad - Tony and from Lincoln Land Community College - Martel!! These students have worked so hard and their future is bright. CONGRATULATIONS!!

It was a perfect day for a celebration! Land of Lincoln Goodwill was a proud sponsor of the 2024 PrideFest in Springfield. What a crowd! The weather was perfect and our team was there to welcome those interested in employment and those who had questions about our services. 🌈

What a gorgeous Saturday in downtown Springfield this weekend. We had a fabulous time partnering with the Lincoln Library Alliance. We handed out several Goodwill bags and answered many questions about Goodwill's mission, purpose and employment opportunities. At the end of the day, all of the Library's unsold books were packed up and taken to our local Goodwill Stores, where the books will live on! Thank you Tiffany Roe! We can't wait until next year!
