My afternoon just got better!! Which should I read first??
Two more beds weeded, planted and mulched. β Oh my aching bones.
When I planted my new flower gardens this year I did it with a purpose. I wanted to share with strangers and friends the beauty that God creates with a very little bit of help from me. If you need any nudge to leap in and plant a flower garden check out . The information Erin shares, her spirit, and the messages behind everything she does are such inspiration for me. This is the first bouquet I have been able to share with a stranger who is now a friend. A chance meeting that I was blessed with and I could in turn bless them with natures beauty.
Today we had the privilege of meeting and visiting a special place and have our family photos taken. That place is an old, large mulberry tree that was on my grandparents farm. The farm was in our family for well over 100 years. I have endless memories of my grandparents and all the time we spent together. Well, sadly it was sold out of the family but today I realized that the years I felt sad about the farm being gone l didn't need to be.
As a child I remember the sturdy tree branches stretching out and giving us shade. I remember the messy fruit it produced which the birds loved and so did we. When the berries were ripe we would head out to claim our share with a reminder to be careful where we stepped. The fruit turned your feet purple and we would track it in the house. Gramma never cared once she saw our smiles, and the stained fingers and lips we wore, plus the handful of berries we carried in to her helped a little. She just sent us in to wash up.
I was able to find the new owners, Jeff and Kathy, by chance, in a rather round about way. I reached out to them and gave my story and asked if we could use their tree.
Today they welcomed twelve strangers to their home along with a puppy, my sister and the photographer. Today for me wasn't just about the pictures. It was about my family's simple legacy found in an old mulberry tree. I found out that just because it is no longer in our family, it is being cared for and loved by a new family who will make memories by that old tree. We met strangers today but I feel like we have known them forever. We walked the property and told stories and history to a family who care about this place and that gnarly old tree as much as we do. I had the privilege to stand under that tree and to meet a couple who are now friends woven in a legacy that will continue on. How blessed I am with Gods unending love and grace. That is what today meant to me.
Is it hot where you live? It sure is here. I weeded and spread mulch in these three areas yesterday but quit until it cools off next week. Have been watering the new plants like crazy. Everything is just about to start blooming and is looking good but oh how I hope it rains soon!! I feel bad for all the hard working farmers out there in this kind of weather.

I NEED ADVICE!! This is a bit long, so sorry in advance. A couple of days ago I posted this railing I salvaged from the house where my dad was born. I have been working hard getting a new plant bed ready and using the railing pieces in it. I LOVE how it is coming together.
I am a perennial person and have no experience with a cut flower bed garden and this is what I want here.
My inspiration starts with . Her bouquets are gorgeous. I love the variety and colors Abby puts together. She not only has a green thumb but I think all the rest of her fingers are green. I don't have as large an area as Abby does but want that look on a smaller scale. Check her out!!
, has fenced cut flower areas that are drool worthy. I love the wispy look to it and it is so pretty.
Chris tell me your green thumb secrets. I think you must be able to grow anything. My thumb is only a light shade of green. π
I have inspiration and now I need help from the cut flower growers willing to share your tips. I want to share the joy of flowers by giving them away to friends, neighbors and anyone that needs a smile.
Please help with ....what to grow, how to start and flowers that will continue to bloom through the growing season. Do you use fertilizer regularly and what kind? This area gets full sun until about 4 in the afternoon. I have been reading so much about it but I always like to hear from people who have been through the trial and error. Hopefully I can skip some of the error. We are in Grand Haven which is zone 6B.
Ok........hit me with your tips and tricks. πΈπ₯π
Starting my next exciting project today. I was able to salvage these three pieces of porch railings from the home where my father was born in 1927. Can you guess what my plan is? Can't wait to show you. Here is a hint....πΈπ₯ππ».
At 11am this morning my Magnolia Table Cookbook Vol 3 was delivered. First up was Peanut Butter Pie. By 5pm it was looking good. Can't wait to try this and more from the new cookbook.
A New Year for me!!
Painting for me is a must. Without that creative outlet I find myself restless, trying to find something fulfilling to do. Granted there are many things I could do, laundry, cleaning, cooking and oh...more cleaning. While those things are necessary, I still need βto doβ something that challenges me and keeps my mind at peace. I need to create. That is what painting does, it is my relaxation. Coming in a very close second to painting is my love of vintage items. I love old junk and so does my husband. I wish I knew the stories that are embedded in the items we find. If only they could talk. We are always out pickin and the top pick is always primitives. So what does someone who loves primitives and loves to paint do.....you create The Primitive Paintbrush
While having a small business painting is not new to me on January 1, 2021 "things are changing!" This change will involve painting on many different vintage surfaces, branching out with new designs, and custom orders. AND a new name! My previous business, KD Slate Creations will become "The Primitive Paintbrush" allowing me to join two loves, painting and primitives.
I am excited to share the new creations, products, and ways I can create custom treasures for you.
So please stay connected as the new year brings new primitive paint paloozas. π₯³π¨π
