Our Story

Royal Family Kids of Santa Barbara CAMP is designed to give foster children, ages 7-11, a summer camp experience that builds positive memories for the rest of their lives. The camp is staffed solely by volunteers who, after a background check, undergo extensive annual training to work with abused and neglected children. Campers are referred primarily through Santa Barbara County Child Welfare Services. Royal Family Kids of Santa Barbara strives to create a camp environment where the children can feel safe, have fun and be unconditionally loved.

In addition, campers have the opportunity to participate in the Royal Family Kids of Santa Barbara CLUB/MENTORING program throughout the school year. Volunteers receive additional training and resources to aid them in strengthening relationships formed at camp. Royal Family Kids of Santa Barbara volunteer mentors then spend quality 1-on-1 time with their child (at least 4 hours each month), plus attend monthly Club meetings, fun outings, and field trips with other Club kids and their mentors. Research shows that at-risk children make significant progress in every area (academic, social, and family life) after just one year of a positive mentoring experience.
