As fall and early winter approach, the crisp air and shorter days signal the arrival of Vata season in Ayurveda. Governed by the elements of space and air, this period can significantly influence the Vata dosha, which is associated with qualities like creativity, spontaneity, and lightness. However, if not properly managed, an increase in Vata during this season can lead to imbalances such as insomnia, anxiety and constipation.

Worry, anxiety and insomnia can be coming directly from your diet. Try these three dietary changes to help you to feel calmer and experience deeper sleep:
• Reduce your caffeine by 25% and in one month, reduce it again by another 25%.
• Swap out your sugary afternoon snack with fruit, like dried dates, figs or berries.
• Save any evening alcoholic beverages for the weekends only, and not during the work week.

One of the simplest things that you can do for your overall health and wellbeing is to drink The Prime Tea. This simple tea recipe has been traditionally used in Ayurveda to boost digestion and support the body’s natural detoxification pathways. It is one of the first recommendations that I make to my patients. Give it a try for a month and let me know what you notice.
Boil 4-5 cups of water in the morning.
Add ½ tsp of the following seeds to boiling water and boil for at least ten minutes with the lid on.
• Whole cumin seeds
• Whole coriander seeds
• Whole fennel seeds
Strain out the seeds and pour the liquid into a thermos. Sip the liquid throughout the day. Start fresh with a new batch of tea each morning.
If the tea produces detox symptoms that are too strong and you experience some initial discomfort, reduce the amount of the seeds to ¼ tsp for two weeks and then increase it back to ½ tsp.

Over the past 20 years, I watched many of my patients who were mothers become overly critical and judgmental of themselves because they couldn’t keep up with the demands of motherhood with a permanent smiley face pasted to their heads. The standards placed on mothers today are absolutely impossible to meet because we lack the social, financial and spiritual support to create “the village” that is required to help children thrive. I have always told people that motherhood was the most challenging role in my life because I never had enough time to be everywhere. In fact, there’s even a new medical term that summarizes this phenomenon that mothers are going through—Depleted Mother Syndrome.

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” Buddha
In Ayurveda there are prescriptive behaviors called rasayanas. Rasayanas are specific techniques that are known to increase one’s longevity and vitality. There is an entire section of Ayurvedic medicines that are designated as herbal rasayanas that promote health and increase lifespan; there are also specific behaviors that accomplish the same goal.
A behavioral rasayana that invites more harmony and health into your life, is letting go of anger. Think of a person who makes you angry and write them a letter of forgiveness; not because you think they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace and health. Then burn or shred the letter. This simple behavioral rasayana will make you feel lighter and more calm.

Hello, Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary here. Diabetes affects nearly 38 million Americans, and another 96 million have prediabetes, which greatly increases the risk of developing diabetes in the future. With these kinds of stats, it’s no wonder so many people think that diabetes is inevitable and a natural part of aging. This saddens me!
In Ayurveda, diabetes is a very well-studied and understood condition. In the ancient texts, there is a condition referred to as Prameha, and it includes clinical scenarios that are akin to our modern classification of prediabetes, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. There wasn’t simply one variation of these conditions, but rather 20 different types of Prameha. Here's what that means for your health and how you can unlock healing: bit.ly/3EzDRmL.
One of my favorite parts of coming to rural India each year to deepen my meditation practice, is the slow pace of life. The slower pace helps create a mental reset because it is in such contrast to the busy nature of American life. However, this slow paced life is also accompanied by very slow WiFi. 😂
As a result, Joshua and I have not been able to upload any of our weekly Wednesday sound baths for you. What we are doing, instead, is recording all of the weekly sound baths here in India and as soon as we return to America, we will post them so that you still get a taste of our little, rural Indian community. We’ll see you all soon! 🙏💕🙏
