Yarn To Dye For

Looks like I’m done with this week’s dishcloth! …. Guess again. Swipe to see the next step in the process.
I crocheted up this blanket for my chiropractor and her wife’s first baby that was born just a few weeks ago! This pattern was fun to do. The base is just double crochets, and the top color is a variegated yarn done in surface crochet.
Yarn: Caron Pound of Love; Red Heart Bitty Stripes
Colors: Oxford Gray; Mermaid
Crochet Hook: 5.00 mm
The Week 43 dishcloth is supposed to be done in one color, but I’m going to attempt a black & white theme here to go with the other black & white kitty I did a few weeks ago. I’m thankful this pattern has a chart, it should make things easier on my eyes. Funny thing about this pattern, my parents had a cat named Kitten Caboodle (or something similar) before I was born!

Yarn: ; I Love This Cotton
Color: Swan; Black
The Week 42 dishcloth was easy, and a quick one to knit up. Which is good, because it helped me catch up on some projects this weekend. My kids had Thursday & Friday off, so I was able to take the days off and be with them and also do some catching up!

The Week 42 Dishcloth is a “simple” target/circle. I’ll use my usual yarns - I forgot to add the Chameleon to the photo, but I’ll use it in this one.

One of these days I’ll catch up and get back on track and complete these dishcloths within my own schedule. 🤪 Yeah… Right…
This Week 41 dishcloth is large. And doesn’t exactly go with any of the other dishcloths from this year. But it’s an interesting design. I was supposed to double knit/duplicate stitch this and I just wasn’t feeling it. So instead I did intarsia and I’m much happier with it.

Yarn: Lily Sugar n’Cream
Color: Black, Gold
The Week 41 dishcloth requires some double-stitching, which is not my favorite. So I’m thinking I might just intarsia knit this dishcloth. I feel like it’ll go faster, and my stitches will be more even than any attempt at double-knit or double-stitch.

The Week 39 dishcloth was repetitive and slow, but came out pretty with an interesting border that was done as the body was worked up, instead of being added afterward.

The Week 40 dishcloth looks simple but large. Let’s hope can work this one up quickly since I’m behind - again. I’ve been working on a blanket on the side and that’s been taking up a lot of my motivation.

The hardest part of a project sometimes is picking yarn colors. I snapped this picture to send to my husband to have him help me choose a skein of yarn to go with this gray.
While I did get this one done pretty quickly, I delayed in photographing and posting. It’s been busy around this house!

The Week 39 dishcloth is the Libra zodiac dishcloth. Here’s hoping I can knock it out fairly quickly!

I ended up changing the colors of this week’s dishcloth - as you can see! After talking it over with my best friend, it made sense to do a black and white theme for this week so I could group a couple of black and white dishcloths together when I go to sell them later on. Plus, a classic black and white checkered pattern is always classy.
The Intarsia part of this pattern was really simple. I just had to remember which direction to switch the yarn. You can see a few places where I forgot. Oh well!

I believe we’re on Week 38? This dishcloth is aptly named: it will be a nice introduction to intarsia! I’m not 100% sold on the colors I’ve chosen, so it may be different when I finish it. Not sure yet.

This week’s dishcloth is so cute!! I didn’t follow the pattern strictly. 😬🫣 But I didn’t want to duplicate stitch the whiskers and ears, so I crochet slip-stitched the whiskers, and knit in garter stitch two small triangles for the ears and then attached them to the white ears. It worked, it looks great, you’d never know it was different than the pattern called for. I’m just not a fan of duplicate stitching. Don’t come at me! Lol

I’m running behind again - what’s new? Work, back to school, kids, life, things just seem to be going a hundred miles a minute around here. This dishcloth looks so cute and should work up quickly!!

This dishcloth came out very nice! The pattern does get a little lost in the colors, but it has a wonderful texture and feel to it!

The Week 36 dishcloth is a smaller one, so hopefully I can knit it up quickly! I’ve been busy with work and kids back in school, and I’m just an exhausted knitter trying to find a spare minute here and there to knit!

I finished this dishcloth fairly quickly this week. I made a few mistakes, but they’re not noticeable at all!

The Week 35 dishcloth marks the start of the season of Virgo! I’m continuing the white and teal theme.

I’m very happily surprised to be able to see the knits and purls pattern clearly on this dishcloth! Even with the variation in the yarn colors, I feel like this pattern shows up! I do wish this pattern was charted instead of written, I struggled a little following along with busy life and all, but I was able to complete it! I even added a third diamond (the pattern only calls for two) because I wanted a square dishcloth.

I am fully aware that this pattern will probably get lost in the yarn, but I’m sticking to this yarn. Wish me luck! I wish this pattern was charted, but it’s only written… so here goes.

The Week 33 dishcloth came out really neat looking! The holes add an interesting texture along with the basketweave pattern.

How I Got Started
I’ve been a lover of yarn since I was a teenager, learning to crochet, taught by my mother. In the fifteen years I’ve been crocheting, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I discovered there is more to yarn than the skeins sold on the shelves of big box stores. I visited my local yarn shop and instantly fell in love with every single skein I saw. The vivid colors, the softness of the different fibers, the beautiful knit or crochet items within the shop. I eagerly bought my first hank of yarn and brought it home and stared at it for days, months even, before I got up the nerve to create something with this previous (albeit expensive) yarn. I was immediately hooked. But the cost of the yarn was holding me back. Then, I found a video of someone dyeing their own yarn, and I fell down this rabbit hole of different ways to dye yarn. I admit, I jumped in feet first and got my hands a little dirty - er, stained - and quickly realized my passion. How much I enjoyed making different colorways and trying new techniques! I rapidly amassed so much of a stock of yarn that I will never be able to get through all of this yarn, even if my needles and hooks flashed all day. So, I have moved onto selling these elegant skeins in the hopes that you will find a special project for them, either for yourself or for a friend or loved one. Enjoy and cherish these beauties for what they are: a work of art to be transformed into something extraordinary.
