He asked me to cut his hair like Elvis. Using the cutting guidelines from the Elvis Pompodour tutorial w/ artist , we are happy with the results.

A few months ago I had a new client and we started with a shoulder length bob in a very dark shade with 100% grey. Client was wanting a big change but still on the fence. I’ve just been decolorizing for the last two sessions and letting a short layered cut and bleach do the work. The former color popping through brings her grey dimension and appears like lowlights for contrast. Her husband even came in to tell me that in 35 years together, what I had been doing with her hair was just the best!
I love when clients are happy 😊

When I cut my hair today, it was long overdue and I realized I was holding on to an unflattering shape for the sake of not wanting to part with the length. I had maintained the same bad shape that had been growing out since Fall 2021 even when the design itself was so imbalanced. In the process I had grown a mullét !
Now for the cut!!
I bobbed it to the shortest layer in the back and no longer have any layers in my hair. Thank goodness!

There’s a great lesson here and a great metaphor I often find when cutting hair. You have to sacrifice something sometimes to get rid of what no longer serves you. LET IT GO! You may be pleasantly surprised what’s right around the corner. ✨😘

Are we really heading back to school already? 🥲

Last night I oiled the ends of my hair with a touch of almond oil and then braided my head in 7 sections. Today I was left with some cute wild texture and the waves were smooth and shiny without being greasy. I threw in a little clippey barrette and even put on makeup lol

Her before hair started with 3 inches of white roots and really faded box dye. I personally love the look of really faded hair sometimes when it’s lightened so much that I won’t do a full makeover - I like to play off what’s in front of me and work with it! I balayaged a few highlights here and there while her roots were on bleaching with a 10v lifting up to an light orangey gold and then toned with 7/86 Wella CT.

Throughout the years I have worked at many salons alongside artists- a great community of eccentrics, intellectuals, bohemians and free-thinkers. Even though every salon had its unique style and quirks there were few that ever really gave the freedom and art space like Gino’s.

Melecia here kept Gino for Hair open on her own since her husband, Gino passed away years ago. It’s a testament to how much love was in this place as Melecia, even In her 80’s has kept this place going so nine of us could continue working. The business wouldn’t have survived through Covid if it wasn’t for her. I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work here for the last 16 months and to grow Haircraft alongside so many talented and experienced stylists and friends. I’ll miss the many spirits that haunt the salon and doing tarot readings in the back, the trellises at the shampoo bowls, the skylight and goddess paintings looking down upon us like our hair idols.

As my friend and fellow stylist, said when I first moved in, ‘This salon is a time portal.’ It’s true! It’s the last of the OG salons in West Portal and I got to be a part of it 🧑‍🎤🤍👨🏼‍🎤✨ It’s the end of an era… 🌅
Thank you for everything ✨

PHASE 2: Post chelation treatment has finished, the recoloring service can now take place. Here we did a full highlight that I blended into her older ombré, gave her a pretty and face framing highlights. I loved the color that was exposed once we removed the chlorine, so I wanted to keep her lights popping and golden 🤩. After all that green we weren’t keen on any ashy color tones! 😂

Transformation Tuesday PHASE 1: Chemical/Mineral removal from bleached hair. Hair was bleached and very outgrown and the blonde was so porous that it turned green within 2 hours in chlorine. This is a progression of chlorine color removal (and haircut) first before attempting a color service.

To Hell With The “Rules”—Long Hair Is Now the Go-To Style for the Over 50s — Vogue My father—a Naval officer—used to say that the length of a woman’s hair should be in proportion to the width of her hips. He has, sadly, long since passed, but used to love winding up my mother (whom he adored) with a chuckle and this particular bon mot whenever he felt she had had a little to...

Here are some of my favorites this summer for hair and skin…

Everyone, especially blondes should be using ! Trust me. It is a game changer and keeps your hair feeling silky and smells so good!! It is great all year long, but especially in the summer and sun. ☀️

For the best basic sunscreen, I love 💙 You just can’t go wrong when you want to tan but still protect your skin.

Finally, I love for my post sun skin treatment and to keep my skin moisturized and hydrated all day. 🧴

I was channeling with this lightening technique. I think mine is much better especially cause I threw in a little Smokey ash shadow root.
