Nutritional status should be checked in all suicidal patients. One example is testing vitamin D levels .... "The study, published in the September issue of the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology found that around 60 percent of the suicidal patients were deficient in vitamin D according to clinical standards. The suicidal patients’ levels of Vitamin D were significantly lower than those in the healthy controls and in the depressed but not suicidal patients. The patients who were deficient in vitamin D also had higher inflammatory markers in their blood, the study found, suggesting that low levels of vitamin D could be a cause of the inflammation.
Previous studies have shown that increased inflammation in the body might be a contributing factor to depression and suicidal tendencies. Vitamin D deficiency also previously has been linked to mental illness, including depression."

My dad passed away in January-after many months of an illness that sapped his strength. I was devastated. Did my business suffer as a result of my grief? The short answer is yes. I said “no”more. I referred out more, and limited my client roster to a smaller number. I scheduled in time to breathe. I cut out people who did not fill me up. I walked outside every day. I talked to my dad. I laughed with my friends. I cried. And the funny thing is, in the end, my business did not suffer. Today it feels stronger than ever. I modeled for my clients what is necessary when trauma and grief occur. That process cannot be rushed. But it can be moved through. It can be felt, in it’s ugliness and despair. And it can become transmuted somehow. One day, you turn a page where you feel the pain less, and perhaps the fire of curiosity more. I have a new appreciation for the life I am living. I can breathe full, slow, deep breathes without a rattle. My business benefited from me taking time for my healing. I feel more equipped to meet the needs of new clients with a renewed sense of purpose and love. Just wanted to remind all of you that it is okay to take a break. It’s okay to say no.
